I had my roof redone by National Star a week ago and it has rained twice since then. Looking in the attic during and after the rain, there were no wet spots in the roof sheeting nor along the trusses. When Sokol comes to give an estimate, he tells you upfront the application techniques they use and why, and the kinds of materials they use. If you want things done a certain way, they will accomodate. I have a poor roof design that actually traps snow. After National Star was done, I'm no longer concerned about leakage in those areas due to the extra precautions taken. The roof being replaced was original which means it was bare bones with no frills. For National Star, underlayment, metal flashing in the valleys and drip edging were all part of the standard package. During the estimate, Sokol stresses their work quality. At first, it's all talk as they all say the same thing. However, after hiring them and watching them roof my house, it's not just talk. At the end of the job, they do bring you up on the roof for a look around but it's best to go outside and stand there and watch them roofing. You get to see things before they are covered up. From what I saw, they were very professional with very few shortcuts taken. The majority of my neighbours have been having their roofs redone by a multitude of different companies over the last year due to last year's hail storm and I've been watching many of the roofing crews work. I'd have to say National Star ranked first for attention to detail and work quality. The crew is mostly family members and they don't sub contract out. So quality from house to house should be consistent from this company. The crew is extremely friendly and easy to talk to. I have two young children and it was nice not hearing offensive language all day long (unlike other crews). The guys at National Star focused on their work instead of pretending they were having a party on top of my roof (unlike other crews). If you hire National Star, you'll get all of this without an upcharge. Their quote was quite competitive with the other estimates I received.
