Full basement wall replacement and lowering

Daniel was recommended to me by structural engineers. He spent a lot of time with me prior to being hired and came on-site several times and spent a couple of hours on the phone with me answering all my questions. I knew before I hired him that he would be great and I was right.

I had to have my entire foundation replaced as well as lowering from 6' to 8'3''. They also installed a new steel beam and steel supports. I also had in-floor heating roughed-in, insulation, waterproofing, backflow valve, and sump pit installed.

The whole job ran smoothly and on schedule with Daniel always open and communicative along the way. I was very impressed with how they handled a few miscommunications (an incorrectly sized window and doorway) which cropped up and as soon as I noticed these things they were immediately fixed without question. I was always listened to and any concern I raised was explained to me and resolved.

Having your home underpinned is a loud, dusty, and pretty unpleasant experience but the Underpinners Inc. are truly excellent at what they do. They are a really great, trustworthy company. You'll be in safe hands.

Basement dig down and underpinning

We dug out basement down from 6 ft 2 to 8 ft 5. Really connected with Daniel from the start. We had a special circumstance in that we had just gone through mould remediation. We had strict guidance on how the basement needed to be put back together. Daniel was invested in making sure our expectations were met and spoke with our mould specialist to ensure it was right. Everyone on the team were great - kind, respectful. They cleaned up as best they could (very messy job). Any time we hit a road block, Daniel and Stephen were responsive and took accountability. When we had an incident where a concrete truck tore down our power line along with 3 neighbours lines, they were on it IMMEDIATELY. They engaged their own team to fix the issue, paid for food for our neighbours and gave them a gift certificate for their trouble. It wasn't their fault, it was the drivers and they totally stepped up. Daniel is a great guy. You will be in good hands.

Underpinning 1930s Brick House

We lowered our basement from 6'-6" finished ceiling height to 8'-2" finished ceiling height with a new beam, flush footings, and rough-ins for in floor heating.

Daniel and Stephen were superb. Like others, we had a great experience with their expertise and knowledge from concept to execution. As far as construction and renovations go, the process was as flawless as could be expected which is not luck but a testament to their experience, abilities, and professionalism. And they were quick with solutions for anything that did arise. Everyone on The Unerprinners Inc team, especially the workers, were extremely respectful and ensured the most positive experience possible for our family and our neighbours. We checked in regularly with our neighbours and they had nothing but glowing reviews for the Underpinners.

Nothing was hidden in the process. Daniel provided various pricing options, identified any potentials for extra costs, and was very forthcoming (and most importantly accurate...) with schedule and timelines. Even through the challenges of the COVID-19 global pandemic, The Underpinners delivered.

As someone who works in commercial construction dealing with contractors on a daily basis, I truly appreciated the ease of working with Daniel, Stephen, and The Underpinners Inc team on my home project. Anyone thinking of an underpinning project would be well served to seek out their services.

Underpinning End of Row House

Would highly recommend Daniel and his team. Daniel was very knowledgeable, and gave great suggestions to ensure the best use of space when underpinning our basement and building a small addition. Every person we came in contact with from The Underpinners were very professional, respectful and considerate to both us and our neighbours. This was very important since we live downtown and the houses are very close together.

When we also needed our garage rebuilt we knew we wanted Daniel to do it. Although we had some issues come up with this, he immediately offered a solution which was a huge relief. It's unfortunate that more trades aren't as reliable and have as much pride in their work as Daniel and his team do.

Overall, we are very happy with our experience and can confidently say Daniel will stand behind his work.

Basement underpinning

If I could give The Underpinners 20 out of 10 or more, I would. Daniel was recommended to us several years ago by neighbours who had their basement underpinned and spoke highly of Daniel as a person and of his work. I have known Daniel for several years now, and have consulted him on various projects. Finally, last fall I decided to underpin my basement to create a tenant apartment. We dug down about 2 feet and did a walk out.

Throughout the process of advising me, putting together a quote, organizing the work, keeping everything clean, dealing with neighbors, Daniel and his team were extremely helpful, professional, kind, and organized. While the cost of a project like this can be a lot, I trusted Daniel to price his work fairly, and his costs are competitive with other companies we got quotes from. The job was well done and on time.

Simply put, The Underpinners are the best in the business. Daniel is the guy they call when other underpinning companies have problems. You don’t want a problem during underpinning, you want experienced professionals who are the best in the business. That’s Daniel and The Underpinners.

Basement underpinned on a 120+ year brick home

Absolutely recommend this company. We underpinned the basement to go from 6' to 8.7' ceilings. Daniel and his team made sure the foundation was safe and kept a clean work environment. All his staff were very polite and extremely hard workers. A pleasure to work with each one knowing they cared about my family home (since it was built in 1910) as much as I do. Any issues e.g. (one huge granite boulder) was handled from start to finish. Steel beams were installed, cement poured over in floor heating. At all times Daniel and staff kept us informed and helped us make decisions. THANK you!

Basement Underpinning

From the beginning to the end of this process it was nothing but positive. The work was done with the highest of standards and professionalism. There were no delays in work and instead of taking 6 weeks it too under 5 weeks to complete. All of the team were respectful and very hardworking.
I have already recommended Underpinners Inc. to others and I will continue to do so.

Underpinning Semi-Detached Basement in the Beaches

We reached out to Daniel for a quote to underpin our basement in 2017. We were debating whether or not to start our home renovations in the basement or on the main floor. Daniel stopped by and ended up sitting with us for over 3 hours. He was personable and you could clearly see that he cared about his business. We did not end up underpinning our home just then; however, when we were finally ready in 2019 there was only really one company we wanted to work with. The Underpinners Inc is a fantastic business that clearly knows what they're doing. Our newly underpinned home was done perfectly and we have continuously gotten thumbs up from every one who has seen it, including contractors, who say that it was a great job. We are so happy that we went with The Underpinners Inc. From dealing with Daniel, Stephen, and all of the workers, it was an absolute pleasure.

Major Reno on a Narrow Lot

The quality of work and level of commitment to project timeline demonstrated by The Underpinners Inc. were uncompromising. There is business integrity and professionalism to this highly specialized and intricate work that they do. As well, working with such tight lot, the crew were respectful to the adjacent properties, which is important to us in maintaining good relationship with our neighbours. We will most definitely work with Daniel and Stephen again, as their passion is infectious and refreshing.
We highly recommend this contractor.

Very Pleased With Complex Underpinning Project

We had the excellent experience of partnering with The Underpinners to handle our complex underpinning project. At a high-level, our project involved building a liner wall on two of our existing foundation walls, underpinning our existing basement, tunnelling into our crawlspace, and building a proper foundation under a room that was built on a concrete pad. At the end of our project, we had a clear 8’2 basement that now runs the length of our home.

We began the process by interviewing several underpinning specialists. However, it was clear that Daniel had the knowledge and experience that our project required. Equally impressive was the fact that Daniel and Stephen did not shy away from the complexity of our project or the fact that our home had some logistical issues as a result of access limitations, including being located on very narrow one-way street.

In the course of our project, we relied on and were impressed with Daniel and Stephen’s network of specialists and trades, including bin logistics, structural engineering, geo-technical engineering and plumbing.

As with most large-scale construction projects, there were a few surprises that could not have been anticipated at the start of the project (for example, the need for helical piles as a result of an isolated area with soft soil conditions). However, in each instance, Stephen would inform us of the issue, provide us with a list of options on how to proceed, and ultimately implement our decision promptly.

The crew that was assigned to our project were very professional: arriving on time, respectful of our home, and always considerate of our neighbours. Our project finished on time, on budget, and according to our structural plans.

Finally, one of the most positive things about working with Daniel and Stephen is how responsive they both are. Personally, we knew that we would want to partner with someone who would be available to answer our questions and any concerns. Daniel and Stephen more than delivered in this respect.

We would not hesitate to recommend The Underpinners for any underpinning or structural foundation work. They are experienced, committed, responsive and knowledgeable – all things that you want with the people to whom you trust your home.
