We looked around at several contractors to try and find a reputable one for underpinning our basement (get more headroom).
Our house is 120 years old so anything can go wrong.
We worked with Westmount in the past on other projects and found that his crew is very good pretty much any task.
We not only lowered the basement by about 18", but we also replaced the original brick columns (24" x 24") with new steel that is only about 5" diamater. Makes the space look much more open now.
The structural work went very well. The job was done in serveral phases and it took a couple of months (typical). He even waterproofed the inside basement wall using a perforated plastic membrane that dropped below the concrete floor along the edges and into a weeping tile. The weeping tile was all connected to a sump pump. I don't have any concerns with issues of water coming in from the outside.
Job well done!
