Basement Reno

The contracted start and finsh date was from mid August to last week in October 2014. Actual completion date 2nd week January 2015. The job has taken 5 months to complete with no regards to customer satisfaction whatsoever. This is unfortunate as the sub contrcators that are hired by Conklin to complete the work are all proffesionals and completed the work to a high standard. The main issue was dealing with Conklin and the manner in which they conduct their business. I would not under any circumsatnces recommend this company to anyone. We chose Conklin because of their alleged commitment to customer care and also becuse of their contracted obligation in completing the job by the 24th October. The deadline was perfect as we were expecting a new baby. The job stalled, after the first 5 weeks, their online build soft management tool wasn't updated, various excuses were levied as to the delays. Vists became infrequent with some contractors arriving onsite at 4:30 pm. Windows were left open in the basement, no consideration was given to our home in terms of protecting flooring for contractor access. Internal walls where damaged and reluctantly repaired by Conklin. A lien was placed on our property which we had to fight to get removed, because Conklin refused to pay a contractor allegedly because of poor quality of work. Poor communication between Conklin and ourselves resulted in the involvement of Lawyers. All in all it was a stressfull experience and one which could have been avoided if more attention to customer care was given.

Basement Reno

We hired Conklin to do our basement reno after getting quotes from 3 other companies and Conklin appeared professional, assured us they met deadlines, pride in quality work and that the price quoted was the cost of the project. The whole project from start to finish was disappointing, frustrating and ended up costing way more including hiring additional people after Conklin left to fix the work Conklin did.

Conklin continually left the house unsecured with the back door wide open or the key in the door with no one there. We had a window cut in, mid November and they left a hole in the house wide open, not boarded up so my husband boarded the window to secure the house and keep heat in.

There were multiple instances were we had to call them back to fix not level framing and uneven drywall and not to mention a poor mud and tape job.

They were 3.5 months over the project end date, we had multiple additional change orders come in for costs, the budget went way over their initial estimate even though they said it was an all in quote.

Overall, the workmanship was poor, the attention to detail and care lacking, the response time was awful we constantly were chasing them to finish.

I do not recommend.

We were very pleased with our recent basement development with Conklin. They were professional, responsive, on budget, on time with the project, and did quality work. We were impressed with their online system that allowed us to transparently see what was being completed when.

Update flooring and wall addition

We had Conklin come in to do an estimate, and they seemed keen and professional with a "can do it" attitude. They said thet would work with our tight timelines and get the job done. We had them start while we still had posession of our condo (we worked out a 2+week overlap).

We were hoping to have hardwood floors put in, a new wall to make separate walls for out kids and a few additional upgrades. The demo went fine, but it looked like it was going slow. We sat back and did not get involved. We visited the house every few days, and it soon became apparent that the work was not going to be done on schedule. Beyond this- the change orders (they wanted more money) started rolling in.

The house was unliveable for our move in day, so everything had to be carried down to the lower level and the garage. We were assured the work would be completed by this stage. The floors had not been started at this point.

We were told it was best not to be in the house while the floors were being done, so we ended up having to get a hotel for the next week.

I am not going to rant, but I will say that after chasing them down to fix shoddy workmanship, and paying way more than the estimated cost, and having to stay in a hotel (which we never planned on), the floors look great... Oh yeah... They sub-contracted that out.

If the rest of their operations communicated as well as their invoicing department, I would be a lot less disappointed!
