Faulty concrete/ poor customer service

Hired Petes Concrete in Spring 2021 in good faith based on in his years in business . Was initially happy with the work but by the end of the year, the sidewalk was showing cracks. I contacted him once the snow was gone in early 2023, sent emails with pictures, texts and phone calls.
NO RESPONSE
By now the driveway was also showing cracks, I finally reached him by phone in AUGUST and was assured he would come to inspect the issues. DID NOT SHOW
Now its Spring 2023, I was persistent and emailed through his estimate for new business form in Facebook. He did respond but another two weeks went by and no Pete, He has assured me twice he was coming over but again did not show
Disgraceful service from a man who professes to do good work and supposedly stands by his end result.I will continue to post negative reviews in all of his social media and advertising until I get a resolution..

NIGHTMARE

NIGHTMARE!
The pictures attached are taken with my cell phone with no filters or any special lighting. These pictures are exact representations of what I have to see every day. Pete refuses to acknowledge his mistakes and rectify this situation by reimbursing us half of our money back so we can get the backyard re-done by another company. He collected payment for his "completed" work on May 26, 2018 and continued to do patchwork until the first week of June 2018.

If Pete's work was even half as good as his talk we would be happy customers. Unfortunately, he fails to deliver in our opinion. We spent over $13, 000 with Pete’s Concrete in May 2018 and we are completely dissatisfied with the work.

- We spent over $13,000 of our hard earned money on new concrete that is flush with various problems.
- The slope is not correct in many areas and water pools by the house. The first incorrect slope by the house we complained about, Pete fixed by putting a groove that did not work and without asking for our permission, he patched it up with grout.
- This grout patch work looks terrible and does not go unnoticed by those visiting our house. We have been told by other concrete experts that the grout patches will not last. Pete insists they are 100x stronger than concrete but they are already deteriorating.
- There are numerous holes close to the house, numerous puddles where water pools by the house and he patched all the deficiencies with grout.
- Cracks showed up 2 weeks after the pour. Now these cracks have exceeded 0.5mm in width, which his contract agreement guarantees. This remains unaddressed and unacknowledged by Pete. (He also blamed his concrete supplier for the issues with the cracks).
- There is a piece of rebar sticking out and not covered properly during the pour.

On a personal note, in 2015, I was diagnosed with cancer and have had multiple surgeries and chemotherapy and missed a lot of work. It took us years to save up to do this project and we were very excited about having it done. We are so disappointed this is how it turned out. This situation has caused us so much stress. Also, Pete left us with a messy yard and he took our front and back gates off and never put them back on. There are honestly at least 10 more complaints we could make, but don’t want the review to go on too long. We think you get the picture…

We would NEVER RECOMMEND Pete to anyone!!!

Level grage and replace floor

I contracted with Pete’s concrete to relevel the garage and replace the concrete floor. During preparation work on the garage my intent to replace the back sidewalk in the future was mentioned. Pete suggested he could do it cheaply because he could have one truck deliver concrete for both jobs. . This was agreed to. Work proceeded on the garage floor and sidewalk and the preparation looked good. I was very satisfied. A truck arrived to deliver the concrete. The concrete looked good on the garage floor, a blue coloring. But now problems started. There was not enough concrete to finish the floor or do the sidewalk. The next day, another load of concrete arrived and pouring continued. This load was not the same as the first load. No blue coloring and the finish did not look as good as the first load. Later the new concrete was showing pitting and flaking, particularly where it met the first load of concrete. All of the second pour of concrete surface became discolored with white patches. Cracking appeared.
Problems with the garage levelling now became apparent. There was a problem with the overhead garage door. Pete partially dismantled it and reassembled it so that it operated. But it had a very loud metallic screech as the door went up. The pedestrian door was totally out of alignment and would not close. The door frame was distorted. Pete said he would have a carpenter come out and fix it. A carpenter never showed up. A week or two later Pete offered to install a new pedestrian door but it would cost me $1500. End of service from Pete’s Concrete.
For $105 I had a service man out to realign the overhead door. The pedestrian door I fixed myself. With my limited carpentry skill and minimal tools I was able to rehang the door so that it closed and locked properly. It took me about three days of off and on work, probably about six hours in total and about $40 worth of material and the job was done.

I never said the concrete would be from the same truck, as the floor needs a different mix. The sidewalk needs air entrainment, whereas the garage floor is not air entrained. We did not run out of concrete, just poured the garage pad first, then the sidewalk second. The reason for the discount was for having us on site, and made the entire job less costly by the square footage while we were there for the entire scope.
Secondly, the garage leveling went as planned, yet created a problem with your doors. The man door was now square when leveled, and the garage overhead door required adjusting when the levelling was completed. We performed the job as requested, everything went well, yet , the doors were out of alignment. When I asked Milton if he wanted a NEW man door and frame installed, he declined.

I am glad you have taken care of your doors, as these doors are quite old, and would obviously require some carpentry maintenance work to correct this issue with the very old doors. After all, I did the job that we had agreed to, and the old doors, once the garage was leveled, were in need of carpentry work, which was declined.

Deck and sidewalk

This is the second job that Pete's concrete has done for me. The first was my front and side entrance sidewalks. The second was a deck and my back yard sidewalk. The work was excellent for both jobs. I was extremely impressed with the quality of staff Pete had on site to do the jobs. My wife and I complimented his staff on their deportment while working around our home. They were respectful in their language and did a great job and worked very hard. We have had Pete's concrete company on our property twice and they did a great work. I have recommended Pete's concrete to family and friends with no reservations at all.

Concrete Driveway Side Extensions

Pete does great work. I had 2 extensions added on the left and right sides of my driveway so that a third car can be parked. We chose to make the side-extensions red (or specifically more of a dark-pink-like brick). It was a nice contrast and we didn't want to try to match the existing driveway colour because we knew it would never perfectly match. The concrete looks great. It is nicely level and just as I requested with a curve at the top where it meets the front walk. Pete offered to do a wave pattern with the brush as an additional touch which we like.

Pete has lots of experience laying concrete and considered weather conditions and temperature. He used plenty of gravel crush and thick concrete along with the rebar. He was a little more expensive than other options but I've seen a lot of cracked driveways so I was happy to pay a little more for higher quality.

Overall, I'm completely happy and would recommend Pete's Concrete to anyone.

Very prompt, very professional, rock solid construction. Pete and his crew really took the time to do a bang up job on this job despite some logistical challenges with my grading.

Exposed aggregate

Front and rear sidewalks and patio done in charcoal exposed aggregate. Two separate pours and colour did not match. Exposed aggregate washing removed many of the pebbles at the surface producing many divots in the finish. Patching and seeding of holes with yellow epoxy further degraded the appearance. Clean up poor. Concrete dumped on grass twice. Siding, windows and fence splattered with concrete. Vinyl fence has dents from wheelbarrow or bobcat. The garage door was power washed and paint was removed. After much complaining Pete removed the yellow patches and did a substandard job of patching. Pete 's work is poor quality. He has no respect for personal property.

Company Response

In the 27 years in this business, i have never met such rude customers. The wife called one of my workers a retard, and constantly use nasty terms whens talking to the workers. I had ordered the same mix on both pours, yet was delivered with a different shade, one for the patio, and another for the sidewalk. The supplier offered to pay for removal of the patio area, or $1000 rebate, they gladly accepted the rebate. They also failed to mention that a cat from the neighbors home had walked onto the sidewalk and left a few indents which were seeded. The remainder looks great, and would gladly refer this sidewalk for anyone to observe!!! As for the mess, was 2 very small areas where the truck filled up the wheelbarrows and was taken care of by simply washing with water and was not visible the day following the pour! after washing the entire yard with a pressure washer, as we always clean our customers yards when completed, the garage door paint was very old and had faded slightly from pressure washing, which they refused to pay $1000 on the bill on account of. They forgot to mention that i had placed an add on kajiji to have their interlocking stone sold, and gave them the $ directly from the buyer as i am always honest with my customers. Beware, these kind of customers make a good honest contractors life a nightmare!

Driveway, garage pad, sidewalks

Pete's Concrete was highly recommended to us at the home show this past January. Pete is friendly and very knowledgeable and it's obvious he takes pride in his work. The crew was also very professional, polite, and worked well with each other, The project came together the way I envisioned it, and they took pictures as the job progressed and emailed them to us at work. Also they were very flexible when we decided to change the design of our walkways midway though the forming process. We were very impressed with the way the project turned out and will recommend Pete's Concrete to all our friends and family.
