Carpentry At Its Best

I have worked with Niall before and hired his team again, this time for replacing the rotting deck and part of the fence in the backyard of my old house. Niall and his team were efficient, friendly, and accommodating. Right after they finished the job, I received many compliments from friends and neighbours. Niall will add the pergola once the ancient shingles are replaced by sidings but already, I couldn't be happier with the deck and the fence, including the attached door that opens to the laneway.

We hired Niall and his team to do two bedroom renovations in our condo. Complete demo! New plumbing, lighting, fixtures, tile and glass doors. The tile work is our favourite! Niall was on time and on schedule. His estimate was accurate, fair and no surprise costs associated. He was professional and courteous. Our project started at the begining of the covid-19 crisis. We are grateful that Niall ensured our work was completed and we have a complete and beautiful renovation.

When we started preparing for our renovation, we were told we would never be able to find a contractor with all three strengths: speed, quality, and price, and that we would have to compromise on at least one of these things. However, after interviewing over a dozen contractors, we found the needle in the haystack! Niall assured us that he would be done our project within 6 months (most contractors said it would take 9 months) [spoiler alert: Niall had us moved into the house TWO weeks early!!!]. As for quality, we visited two of his other large projects and realized quickly that his finishes are AMAZING. For price, he was very fair. He was not the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but rather right in the middle. Of course, it was still a very stressful time in our lives, especially because Niall was moving so fast so our decisions had to be made very quickly (a happy problem to have!), and sometimes we disagreed on things (Niall and I are both type A!), but Niall always made sure that we were satisfied.

Overall, we found Niall to be very honest, ethical, and he went above and beyond for us (even built us a vanity from scratch when he realized the one we bought was hideous). He works with pride and integrity - sometimes insisting he could make things look even better after we already told him how satisfied we were. We adore all his workers and sub-trades as well. We aren't always easy to please but we would definitely recommend him to our friends and family and that says a lot. We love our new house.

The designer introduced me to Niall whom she had worked with before and highly recommended. His team helped me with a full condo renovation in the summer of 2019 that included a complete bathroom and kitchen renovation, new paint throughout the whole unit and all light fixtures. Niall was very responsible and a pleasure to work with. His team can always give me a big good surprise each time I got back to see the progress (I need to move out during the renovation). Able to see how nice my condo can be. They always made sure everything was cleaned up before they left each day. I remembered one time Niall showing me what wrong with my counter table when trying to use the granite from the bathroom. End up we changed our plan and to buy a new one instead. I could not complete the renovation and made my condo be my dream home without Niall team. Thank you Niall and your team!

We selected Carpentry At Its Best on the strength of our neighbours' recommendation. They had a kitchen reno done by Carpentry At Its Best, showed us the final result and told us about their experience.

The owner, Niall, contracted to do two major renovations in our house. One was a complete redo of our kitchen, dining room and upstairs hall, and the other was to renovate our basement, including the rec room, bathroom (adding a shower), wet bar, foyer, hallway, closets, etc. Both projects involved a complete gutting of the respective spaces; ceilings, walls and floors, running new copper wiring to replace the outdated aluminum wiring and correcting the shoddy plumbing that was original to the house. The first thing to know about Niall’s handling of our very large project was that it was completed within the originally stated timelines and on budget. This was despite the several glitches and problems that appeared, as they inevitably do in old houses and projects of this size. The second thing to know is that the work was top rate. It was very clear from the beginning that Niall took great pride in the quality of his work and that of his workers. He even had a worker redo a specific finishing task because he was not satisfied with it.

Before any work was done, Niall spent extensive time going over what we wanted. He listened very carefully to our requests and concerns and was always forthright regarding the complications that may be involved.

We were out of our home for 10 weeks. Niall offered us a weekly walk-through to review what was done and what the next steps would be. He was always on time, and every commitment for a meeting was met. Several different tradesmen came through our house and every single one of them was professional and courteous. We felt very comfortable in leaving our home in the hands of these fine workers.

We are delighted with our new kitchen, dining room, halls, bathroom, rec room etc. Below are some before and after pictures of the kitchen, and several shots of the basement. We heartily recommend Carpentry At Its Best. We look forward to Niall’s return in the spring to build our back deck.

When redoing our front porch, Niall and his team provided great counsel. They were incredibly professional and delivered great quality work. I would highly recommend Niall for any carpentry job.

Niall helped us retro-fit a ridge beam to the 3rd floor of our house.

The job was highly complicated, as the home was already fully finished and he was able to design a plan to make the structural corrections while minimising disturbance to existing finishing. The job involved demo, structural work and then dry walling and re-finishing.

His best skill is organisation, planning and thoroughness. He put us in contact with his engineer and the two worked together to find an elegant solution to our issue.

The job was not easy and multiple contractors passed on it.
His rates are more than fair and he was thoughtful and respectful with our budget and he actually finished on time.

Niall and his team built a new under-the-stairs closet in our basement in an area that was previously just wasted space. They did a fantastic job -- the project stayed on budget and was done within a reasonable time frame and professionally.

Niall and his team did an amazing job on my staircase and hallway project. I wanted my pre-finished hardwood flooring installed on my staircase and was having a hard time finding someone who was willing to take the time to do the detailed work it would require. Niall's team was superb. Unlike other companies, he did not try to persuade me to install stair treads because it would be faster and easier. In fact, he reassured me that the install was not only possible, but that it would not be a problem at all.

The team was lovely to work with. They take great pride in their work and making sure it's done to specification and full satisfaction. I would not hesitate to hire Carpentry at its Best again.

We needed help with a leaking balcony door and water damaged wall after discovering an ant colony had set up home in the wall. Niall responded in a timely fashion, thoroughly investigated the source of the leak, considered potential options for repair, and was open to all questions and concerns. His team delivered quality and reliable service in a very timely fashion. Highly recommend their services!
