Carpentry At Its Best

We called Niall to rebuild our stairs to the basement, as well as add a post and railing. We also asked if he could put in new trim throughout, and install a new door to the cold room. He was quick to respond and provide a quote. He estimated he would be able to start the project in mid-February, which he did as promised. His team worked diligently to finish in just 3 days.

With other projects and contractors, we have dealt with poor communication, delays due to poor project management, dismissive attitudes etc. We were pleased with Carpentry At Its Best, and would definitely recommend Niall and his team because of their professional communication, their accurate timelines, friendly manner, and quality of their work.

I initially started this project with some degree of apprehension; afterall, this was the first time I was hiring a Carpenter/Framing Specialist (Niall is a General Contractor) to customize 8 ft French closet doors in a condo with 8 ft ceiling. And, this would all happen in a 780 sq ft Condo?

Right from the get go I felt at ease; Niall & a member of his crew- 'Billie' were thorough gentlemen, I felt very comfortable hanging around in my condo while they worked away with meticulous precision, dedication and focus. Billie has a soothing presence, he has the wisdom and intuition in the way he went about with organization, the physical space was very limited & little challenging at times to navigate; but never heard any complaint. These are true Professionals.

The smooth communication between them is an example of excellent Teamwork. I so wish my other contractors could demonstrate the same degree of professionalism & expertise.

I hope this Review also reassures those 'Individuals' who perhaps feel intimidated about hiring Carpenters/Framing Specialist; With Carpentry At Its Best, you are in safe hands and you will not be taken for a ride. Niall is upfront & honest, a man of Integrity; he had an opportunity to get some extra cash off me, which he didn't. In this day and age, who does that??? Niall stuck to the original Cost Estimate, no games. I also discussed another task for Niall to do in my Laundry area; Niall looked at it & told me "don't waste your money" he instead recommended suggested another cost effective upgrade that would help in my Condo Resale. It's hard to find such honest tradesmen in today's world.

Both Niall and Billie wore masks, thankfully, I didn't have to hear from my neighbours. They cleaned up the entire area thoroughly on both days.

The doors look gorgeous and sophisticated, it is not a walk in closet, but sure gives the appearance of one. I am so happy to end on this note: Folks, I now have a Go-to 'General Contractor". No more screening, my search for a tradesmen has ended!!!

I originally put in a request to build a door frame with double doors to block off a hall in the basement that was open. Niall and his team responded to my request immediately and kept us informed as to when the project could get started. Their workmanship was impeccable! I contacted Niall to install a step in my condo and he did a fantastic job. Used real wood and made the step seamless with my floors. After about a year, the steps separated a bit due to the humidity in my condo. Niall came back and fixed the separation without hesitation. I would contact Niall for any carpentry work needed.

After being burned by bad contractors in the past, we probably had close to 20 different companies come to quote on our project - so let me save you all that trouble and time right now - we ultimately picked Niall for a reason (price, timeline, his genuine attitude and straight-shooting personality) and we were not disappointed!

We opened up our front enclosed porch and insulated it, added a new front and a new rear door, re-floored the entire house, completely gutted and renovated the kitchen, added a new staircase, painted, smoothed out the upstairs ceiling, and added built-in cabinetry, closets, and an entertainment unit.

It really pays to have your general contractor be a skilled carpenter himself - which showed throughout the many little (and big!) details in the finished product. Niall custom-matched our old baseboard moulding by making it all himself! He also added things we never discussed in our original scope of work, small quality of life improvements throughout the house, which he simply added and never charged extra for: new door stoppers, new electrical outlets in our basement that saved us from having to continue using extension cords, and new motion-sensing LED lighting in all the closets, for example.

Niall was responsive and communicative throughout the project, was transparent about our budget, and finished the project on time based on his original estimate.

Niall, Billy, and all his sub-trades (floorers, painters, electricians, and his preferred kitchen contractor) did excellent work, were responsive and open to correcting minor issues to my high and exacting standards, and more importantly, Niall built-in plenty of time ahead of the project to make sure all the necessary suppliers could deliver on time even during COVID, lockdowns, and manufacturer/wood shortages.

I've already recommended Carpentry At Its Best to friends and would hire Niall again for any future work in our house.

Over the last couple of years Niall has spearheaded a number of projects for us, the most recent being an upper level deck. He was very patient with us as we navigated a complicated timeline of municipal permit processes and made several design revisions. The end result is beautiful and we're very happy with our new deck!

Niall is always very responsive, communicative, and transparent with his recommendations, costing and overall advice. He's honest and reliable, and we trust him to always have our best case scenario in mind as we're weighing options. I always feel like I can ask him anything, no matter how simple the question is.

We hired Niall through a referral to add a bathroom to our main floor extension in our old house. Niall and his team were extremely great to work with and very friendly and considerate of the mess etc. Niall was open to my feedback on some changes to the glass shower to add more detail and had it finished the next day. The work and craftmanship of his team is high quality and you can see it in the result. Niall is responsive and follows up to ensure his clients are happy. Niall and his team are coming to renovate our full basement in January as our next project. Would recommend Niall and his team to anyone looking for a quality and trusted contractor and team.

Complete rebuild of previously finished basement that required a total rebuild due to sewer backup problem in January 2020. Work was started in March/20 but decision was to stop construction after 2 weeks due to Convid concerns. Work resumed in July/20 and was completed in 4 weeks. Niall, Bill and Steve did an outstanding job ... they added a new bathroom and laundry room along with a bedroom, tv room and storage room. An electric fireplace was also installed. Quality of the work was very good and we are very happy with the results.

We recently hired Niall and team to repair a number of wood posts in our carport and veranda that were starting to show signs of rot. Niall was highly responsive, immediately returning my calls and keeping me informed on the status of material delivery and work timelines. He took the time to explain things and answer my questions. This was a relatively small job compared to other projects his company does, but he still treated me like any other client and provided high quality customer service.

The design of the original posts were quite intricate, but Niall spent the time researching and calling around to find a vendor that could replicate the design so the new posts closely matched the original posts. Niall visited multiple times to make sure he had all the necessary and correct measurements before ordering the posts. He takes pride in his work.

When it came time to install the wood posts, Niall and team were highly professional. They arrived on time and cleaned up at the end of each day. The team even went above and beyond by replacing a few rotting pieces of wood on the veranda railings using leftover wood pieces at no charge.

I would recommend Niall and team to others and would hire them again for any future carpentry work.
