Replacing of light fixtures

Stay away from this company. I have used them several times in the past but they have since gone downhill. I live in Orleans and just paid $1,480.30 to have 7 new light fixtures installed. One light was installed crooked, the switch plate on the wall was very crooked, the ceiling fan was not installed properly and had to be re-installed, the wall remote holder for my ceiling fan was installed upside-down, I paid for dimmer switches on the main floor and regular switches were installed, I paid for 2 outside potlights to be put back flush and 1 wasn't done (no communication was given for this - they just left it sticking out). In addition to this, loose screws were left on the floor on my basement carpet that I keep stepping on (there were 4). The day after having all these installed one of the ceiling fans wasn't working. I called the company to come back and fix the potlight, the ceiling fan and the plate on the wall that was severely crooked. With all the issues that I was encountering I was embarrassed to flag the plate and the potlight the day the guys were on-site. On the day of my work I was told that I would have 3 electricians, instead I had 1 and an apprentice. I also had items on my invoice that the owner couldn't specifically identify what they were for except to say that he puts that on all his invoices - it was $50 for wire surcharge for increasing prices in wire and $50 for shop supplies. I did add one ceiling light that was not there before, but it couldn't have used more than one 4' piece of wire. After all these issues, the owner wants me to pay another $250 to come back and install a piece into the ceiling fan because it wasn't working. I understand if the piece wasn't his company's fault, but you would think that he would provide good customer service and either put the piece in as a courtesy or at least at a discounted rate because of all of the mistakes that I have encountered. Nobody should work for free yet I never charged him for the time it took out of my day for him to come back to fix the work his technicians improperly did. This company is only after your money and has no customer service skills. Very disappointed. I was also going to use them to install my hot tub but their installation quote was $1,500 higher than my other quotes. Never again. I also know of another unhappy customer as well. Oh - and I got my ESA certificate from this job but no one ever came on-site to inspect the work that was done - not quite sure how that works - paid $145 for a piece of paper.

Approximate cost of services:
$1,500.00

Company Response

Hi Penny

We do apologize that you had a negative experience with us. As always we send 2-3 employees to a site, we of course participate in Ontarios apprenticeship program and keep to the ratios, so for your project 1 electrician and 1 apprentice. Unfortunately with a lot of homes, existing electrical boxes may have been originally installed not as satisfactory "straight" as one would hope - we can not take fault from their installations.
With the current pandemic, the price of wire has increased about 80%, we account for this by the wire surcharge that everyone can now see on their Quote(meaning it is agreed upon prior to work being scheduled) and it explains on the line item why it is there. Shop supplies cover all the small items required for your project as well as the PPE to ensure everyone is Covid compliant and that we are able to do our part to safely continue working in Ontario. The existing exterior pot light that is still not perfectly flush is damaged and we did not supply nor install it, it requires replacement as mentioned.
As for the request for a free service call for the ceiling fan that requires replacement, unfortunately we do not offer this as my staff deserve to be compensated for the work that they do.
As for the ESA permit, we do not have any say on their permit prices and whether or not an inspector does a physical inspection or if they pass it with no visit. This is also explained on the quote and invoice.

We wish you all the best in your future reno projects

Sincerely,

Ring Electric Inc.
