Noises in the attic this winter were waking me up at night. Scratching and rustling sounds, and sometimes louder sounds. I called Joe in to take care of it. He inspected all around the inside of the attic (soffits, vents, everything). He found signs of birds nesting but no other signs of animals (droppings, etc.) as well as a softball-sized hole to the outside. We were aware of starlings nesting there over the last few years. Whatever was in the attic this winter could be coming and going through this hole. From the outside, he got up 30' on a ladder on a cold February day and patched the hole with wire mesh and screws (see photos). This spring the starlings were surprised to find they couldn't get back in. They seemed quite put out by the change in circumstances. Anyway back to the main story. I still heard the noises over the next two weeks. Joe came back (no extra charge) and went back in the attic. Above my room he pulled back thick fibreglass insulation bats to reveal a hidden space between the insulation and room ceiling with mouse droppings. Mice/mouse found this space and were using it, as it was protected from the blown cellulose insulation that covers the attic. Joe baited the space and within one or two weeks, the problem was gone. Joe was professional, helpful, nice to talk to and punctual. An excellent price, and effective work. No extra charge for the second visit. He also sent me photos to forward to my landlord.

This was a tricky job and since I found an opening where the birds were that was right above my clients bedroom one would assume it was the reason for the noises. Still, it turns out to be mice under a ton of insulation. I didn't need to do ladder work after all but the birds were dealt with as well. Pest control is not an exact science and in this case it appears to be true. In the end my client resolved two issues. Thanks for you business.Joe
