B wise contractors development my basement. They added a bathroom and bedroom. The tradesmen were always professional and Rick was a pleasure to deal with! I will definitely be calling them back for future work!

A law firm sent a letter directing me to remove this post and refrain from posting on other platforms about B Wise Contractors 2012 Ltd.

My response is:
"Freedom of expression in Canada is protected as a "fundamental freedom" by Section 2 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Charter also permits the government to enforce "reasonable" limits. Hate speech, obscenity, and defamation are common categories of restricted speech in Canada."

I feel I have been clear about opinions, feelings and the details I have provided on behalf of my husband and myself. I have not engaged in any form of hate speech, obscenity or defamation. However, I will edit this post to ensure further clarity.

B Wise Contractors 2012 Ltd. was hired for the following project:
Convert bungalow with crawl space to raised bungalow with full basement and small 3 season mudroom addition.

B Wise provided a project timeline of 2 months
Homeowners vacated: August 23, 2020
B Wise had fully abandoned our property by or before October 29, 2020

Details:
Pre-payments paid:
January 2020 - $15,000.00
February 2020 - $15,000.00
September 2020 - $56,015.81
Total amount B Wise has obtained from us - $86,015.81

I have included pictures to substantiate how our property appeared between October 2020 - November 2020 (current). Please use your own judgement and discretion to determine if you feel $86,015.81 is reasonable. It is confirmed that we do not have roughed in plumbing to the proposed laundry room and bathroom. We do not currently have running water, electricity or heat. We are missing interior and exterior stairs and our walls are open to the elements. We do not have a basement floor slab. The backfilling, sidewalks, parging, grading and reseeding were not completed. The siding and finishing work is incomplete. Our top level of the house was not tied into the bottom level of our house. We do not have a 3 season addition..

Opinion:
It is my opinion that Rick became progressively less personable after we had provided prepayment.

It is my opinion that B Wise Contractors 2012 Ltd. began demanding pre-payment well ahead of the percentage based work schedule. It is my opinion that Rick has been verbally abusive. It is my opinion that my husband and I were cooperative and willing to resolve issues. It is my opinion that B Wise put undue pressure and stress on my husband and I. It is my opinion that my husband and I have suffered unnecessary hardship due to hiring B Wise Contractors 2012 Ltd.

I received an email attached letter stating that B Wise Contractors 2012 Ltd. is pursuing a performance cost of 175,153.25.

Feelings and opinions:
We are beyond regretful about hiring B Wise Contractors 2012 Ltd. It is my husband's and my shared opinion that Rick and Peter are trying to cause us to lose more financially, as well as our home, due to challenging business practices.

Details:
$56,015.81 is indicated as the 50% - 75% project completion progress draw. It is our opinion that this amount was requested and granted at less than 30% of project completion.

Calculation showed that 86,015.81 is approximately 64% of 126,257.25

Feelings and opinions:
My wife and I felt concerned because our opinion was that our project appeared to be progressively slowing down during the months of September 2020 and October 2020. My husband and I felt that the weather conditions in August, September and early October were typically optimal for our project.

Feelings and opinions:
It is our opinion that the current state of our property does not meet the prepayment value of $86,015.81. It is our opinion that our property is not 50% - 75% complete. It is our opinion that B Wise is in breach of contract.

UPDATE December 1 2020:
As of today they have put a lien on our house...is this the kind of company you want to hire?

B Wise contractors did not apply for correct City of Edmonton permit for the building of my attached sunroom.
They did not apply for a final inspection.
They told me the inspection had been passed when I made the final payment.
The City of Edmonton wrote to me about an outstanding permit. I found out it was for a 3 season sunroom and even that permit was failed.
I am out thousands of dollars, have a house that will be hard to sell, and when I talked to B Wise about the permit, they tried to blame the City of Edmonton. When I refused to accept this, they hung up on me.
Do Not Do Business with this company!!!!

The entire team were excellent, they cleaned up after every work session, they left my home in spotless condition. All the skilled trades people were extremely knowledgeable in what their role was, and what work needed to be done for my kitchen renovation. My Project Manager Rick checked in everyday to see how things were going and to review with me any concerns or issues. Rick also provided good solutions to resolve any issue. My Carpenter/Specialist/Jack of all Trades Frank was exceptionally good, he took pride in his work, and did an excellent job installing ceramic tiles, backsplash, painting, and so many other jobs. I love my new kitchen! It is exactly what I wanted thanks to the team at B Wise Contracting.

I have only positive comments on B-Wise Construction that exceeded my expectations. With Peter's guidance, my home's exterior walls were insulated. House is now warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Added insulation to my exterior walls reduced my electrical and gas bills. Colour of my exterior walls (premier vinyl) was suggested by Peter and from the applied vinyl received many positive comments from my neighbours. It looks great. His crew cladded my garage door frame and the window and door frame of my shed. B-Wise installed premium vinyl siding with high lighted white corners. Very attractive I might say. My home now looks like a newly constructed home in an older neighbourhood. Project costs and time were very attractive. I highly recommend B-Wise Construction to anyone and feel good about giving this reference through Homestars. (TEN STARS)

The work included installing new triple pane Lo-E windows, house doors, siding, extra 1" insulation and eaves-trough. Some concrete work done as well. All crews that came to do the work were courteous, hard working and cleaned up the work areas on a daily basis before the left for the day.

In my opinion, its hard to give "perfect ratings " because it's to high a standard for anyone to meet no matter what you are attempting. However I am very satisfied with Peter Urkow and how he treated us. He takes the time to explain products and options.Peter returns phone calls and texts on a timely basis and that is something that I as a customer place great value on. He was also on site many times to inspect the work while it was being done and made sure we understood what was going on and that we were satisfied. That same service from him continued after the bulk of the work was completed. He is a great person to work with and very helpful.

From the beginning with my call to B Wise, a detailed quote including photos of the damage on the second story to a full repair job that I extended to include capping of door and window frames was all done in less than a week with no mess and right on budget.

It is a pleasure to comment on the commitment and pride of workmanship demonstrated by Bwise Contractors. I am very impressed by the quality of their advice, their knowledge of product and the excellence of their installation. Working with Peter Urkow, President of Bwise, to re-side my 2,300 square foot bungalow with high quality siding, including the addition of insulation and capping, was a pleasure and a privilege. The new siding has totally changed the look of my house, updating it and making it more attractive.
The addition of new insulation, which was Peter's suggestion, has made the interior of the house more comfortable and reduced my consumption of natural gas.
The crew that worked with Peter Urkow on this job was also excellent, bringing extensive past experience and knowledge of new siding techniques to the work.
Bwise's pricing was fair and competitive with other siding companies. Any deficiencies or additional small jobs that I identified were taken care of without hesitation and in a timely manner.
I would highly recommend Bwise Contractors to anyone in Edmonton and area who requires similar work done.
