Shingle Replacement, New Metal Flashings & New Vents

We’re so happy that we chose The Cutting Edge Roofing to replace our shingles. The entire experience was outstanding from obtaining the quote (including photos of the condition of our roof) from Robert to the follow-up customer service from Tracie-Marie.

We were impressed from talking to Robert by his extensive knowledge regarding the business as well as his unwavering dedication to the highest quality of workmanship and the importance of client satisfaction.

Our roof is large and a bit complex, and it took a day and a half to complete the job. 7 crew members showed up led by the site supervisor, Jimmy. On two of the hottest days of the summer, the whole crew worked continuously and tirelessly, putting in an 11-hour day on Day 1. At the end of each day, the clean-up work was excellent. It was very apparent how well they worked together as a team, and all of them were very friendly, polite and hardworking. We’d like to give a big shout-out to Jimmy in particular as he was just super nice to deal with during the whole project from start to finish. After the job was done, Jimmy emailed us many photos of the various stages of the re-shingling to give us peace of mind that everything that was supposed to be done was indeed done, and in fact, was accomplished extremely well and definitely to our satisfaction.

A few weeks following the job, I called Tracie-Marie to inquire how I’d go about registering for warranty of the shingles, and to my surprise, she had already completed and filed the necessary forms with the manufacture and all I have to do is wait for the paperwork to come through the mail!

Big thanks to Robert, Jimmy, Tracie-Marie and the whole crew for a great experience and a job very well done. Highly, highly recommended!!

Roof Reshingle

The team did an excellent job. The property was left very clean, the eaves were left clean, and the roof looks really good. Absolutely nothing to complain about. This was the first roof I had re-shingled, so I trusted the reviews and ratings when choosing which company to use. Robert was very professional and the quality of the installation and product used makes Cutting Edge roofing well deserving of the high ratings they have.

New Roof & Flat Roof on Portico

We asked Robert for an estimate based on reviews we read on Homestars.. He was timely and provided us with detailed explanations as to why his price was higher than the other 2 estimates. We hired him and are extremely happy with the work he and his crew did. He was present all the time and went out of his way on the flat roof which required framing also as some critters had been living underneath. The clean up was great too! Well worth the extra monies and we highly recommend them.

Roof Reshingle and plywood replacement + new eaves

I chose Cutting Edge to replace the plywood, shingles and eaves on our roof in Oct 2015 after getting several quotes for the work. Robert came and explained everything clearly and quoted the work. I was very impressed with his knowledge and explanation of the work. He even crawled up into our attic to take a look and took pictures to show us. His crew of 8 was efficient and completed the work on schedule and cleaned up very well afterwards. I was amazed they completed both the plywood and shingles in one day. They also fixed several bathroom vents that were not properly connected and showed us pictures of the finished work. They correct several errors they found and even pointed out some other issues they found when they removed the plywood. The eaves was done separately about a week later. I was very happy with their work and would highly recommend.

New shingles

From quote to installation had great experience with the team at Cutting Edge Roofing.

Needed to replace cracking ~12 yo shingles. Started with a few quotes; this team stood out with a good price and quality recommendations on improving overall roofing system - e.g. moving vents up, avoiding ridge vents with a low-pitched roof, and a few other tidbits. Had pretty much the opposite experience with other (well-reviewed!) installers, so this was an easy choice. The team also accommodated an insulation contractor to do a top-up at a roof section without attic access.

The team completed the job very quickly, 5 hours start to finish, and left the site in pristine condition. Roof looks stunning. Thanks guys!

Very Satisfied with our new roof

I chose TCE from these HomeStars reviews, they are the only company I even spoke to. I believe in paying for quality work and these reviews attested to that, as also ultimately did my experience with TCE. I am very pleased with their service, and would highly recommend them. The 'fly-by-night'-ers may be a few hundred $ cheaper, but it will show in their workmanship. If you are flipping a house, I guess you don't care about longevity anyway...but, if you are investing longterm into your home...then The Cutting Edge is your only logical choice for a quality roofing job.
Our 'plan' is to stay in this house until our young kids finish school and move on...~ 20yrs from now. I did not want to have to deal with re-roofing just before sale, so I chose to have a '50yr' roof installed. (Robert ensured our invoice was very detailed and clearly indicated the longevity upgrades...as I intend to produce this invoice for any future buyers)
I won't bother repeating the details of the work execution, like all the other reviews... It's all true, they do great work, take & send pics, and clean up well.
I will, however, explain how I gave Robert ample opportunity to fleece me...yet, he did not...even arguing against my more expensive wishes:
- 1st contact was my email, in April-ish?: requesting new roofing, ridge venting and 2 'properly installed' (as opposed to the despicable builder's method) bathroom fan exhaust roof vents...and how much would he like for a deposit?
- during his 1st initial visit, he left a detailed quote. Next day I called him, confirming I wanted to upgrade to the 50yr shingles. (it's an extra $7~800 versus the 30yr...it's a no brainer!) Then I told him that I wanted my 'entire' roofing (not just 6 feet up from the edge) covered with the Ice&Water shield rubber membrane type stuff, instead of the high quality synthetic 'paper' (cheaper roofers just use plain old tar paper). He suggested this was ridiculous overkill for my particular roof and not worth the extra $6~700 it would cost me. I insisted, explaining my desire for a seriously long-term roof. He eventually gave in....(this was the 1st 'fleecing' opportunity).
- next next day, I called him again, asking about the small flat roofs I have above my porch and garage end. They were not clearly described in the quote (and confirmed not considered) as I had not originally asked for them. My bad, I did not realize I needed to be that specific...so I asked him to include them in the work...and how much/when did he want his deposit, again?
- that day he made a 2nd visit to go up and inspect the small flat roofs. He then called me and 'flat out' (-; told me that they were fine and should not need work for many years. I suggested "while you're at it anyway..." His concern was the cost involved in working these flat roofs, which he felt were in great shape. Due to the long labour in dealing with all the siding, flashing, railings, etc...it was going to cost me an extra ~ $2000, and he felt it just wasn't necessary at this time. At this point I graciously thanked him for his time and agreed that the flat roofs can wait. (fleecing opportunity #2) Oh, how much/when did he want that deposit again?
- we had a few more phone calls and detailed email conversations over the time it took for work execution. My roof was not in dire need and I made it clear I was in no rush...about that deposit?...amount? when?
- Initial schedule was for mid-June, but at my request, we settled on mid-July...as we would be away on vacation. (would you do the same with 'fly by night'-ers?) Although I had never personally met Robert, there was no question as to his integrity...given my conversations above. I had no concerns about his, or his crew's, work ethics...as has already been clearly described by many other reviewers here.
Besides...through months of quoting, re-quouting, color pick visits and such...he never accepted my insistence on giving him a deposit.
Now, this may not be a standard practice of his...as my wife 'did' sign the finalized quote, back in April...nonetheless, would a 'fly by night'-er be willing to schedule his crew, buy and install all the materials...at risk of not getting paid and having to go 'legal'? No way. They would demand a deposit, likely delay the install date and demand payment the day they finally showed up...they'd rather you suffer the 'wondering'...
Funny story (not really)...regarding payment: once we got back home, we got an invoice in the mail. I bought a bank draft and pestered Robert enough to finally come get it a few days later...as I finally wanted to meet him and shake his hand. You can imagine my 'surprise' when I opened my RBC envelope and the bank draft wasn't there. Robert was sympathetic to my rising panic (I showed him my copy of the draft, I desperately didn't want him to think me a trickster...a fool is fine though) and then he calmly suggested we try again another night... (an hour later, garbage strewn across the garage floor...I found the original...ripped up with a bunch of bills, etc.) A few days later...Robert did finally get paid for the excellent work his company did.
If you value your home, when it's time...hire The Cutting Edge. I assure you will be satisfied with what you paid for...a rare thing these days.

New mansard roof

I would highly recommend Cutting Edge if you are considering replacing your roof. I was provided with a detailed quote based on a thorough examination of my roof (including pictures!) and a detailed explanation of the work to be done. The crew did a great job of protecting our many garden beds and cleaning up when finished. They were a great team to deal with. I was also provided with many pictures of the work as it was in progress and of the finished job. Most important - the roof looks great!
