Major renovation

John, Louis, Jesse and crew supported us during our custom built home renovation. We are so thrilled we chose Maximum General Contracting to take on this enormous life changing endeavour. From demolition to underpinning, to building additions and preparing drains and flooring, shined throughout the entire process. They always provided timely insight and suggestions to expedite the process and maintain our timelines and stay within our budget. Constant praise from Toronto City Inspectors and Structural Engineers during various stages of inspections. People often say, “Renovations are a nightmare!” not with these professionals. Our deepest thanks

Underpinning basement and help with finishes

My contract with Maximum was for the underpinning only. These guys were terrific, professionals in every aspect. I would strongly recommend Jesse and his team anywhere, anytime. Most importantly, the job was completed within the timeline specified.

Once the underpinning was complete, Jesse helped with all other aspects of the renovation. He recommended his trades from framing to plumbing and insulation even though it was not part of the original contract. I ended up using those guys as well, great work at a reasonable price.

I give Jesse and the Maximum team 100% and would use them again in a Heartbeat.

Thanks again Maximum.
Best,
George

Basement underpinning and foundation repair

John, Louis, Jesse, Billy and the whole Maximum team was true professional when it come to basement underpinning. We hired them to lower our basement to 8-feet. They showed up 7am every day ready to go. For such a big job, I felt like it's in the right hands through-out the whole process. Our job turned out to be much bigger than expected. But they have the experience to handle more than just a regular underpinning. I can recommend them for underpinning work as well as foundation work. It's a family-owned, trust-worthy business. They are a benefit to all home owners out there who are looking for good contractors.

Basement Waterproofing

There is definitely not enough space for all the great things I have to say about Maximum General Contracting. I would give them a 20/10 if I could.
I initially heard of Maximum General Contracting from my realtor/friend who told me he recommends them all the time and everyone he had recommended them to say they are the best!! Well.... they were right. I hired them to waterproof my extremely leaky basement and I am so happy with the work they did and I have to say that they are BY FAR the BEST trade company I have EVER dealt with!!! First off, this company is the real deal. They came for a quote when they said they would and they were able to show me so many things I didn't even know about my own house. They gave me a really good price and I let them know I had some time constraints and Jesse and John bent over backwards to accommodate me. They showed up every day on time and worked extremely hard all day long - most of the time, they didn't even stop for lunch. They work very meticulously and made sure every last detail was perfect. Every member of their crew is a perfectionist. They were so smart and knowledgeable and I was kept informed of every step of the process. I never had to wonder about anything. Jesse called me every day to keep me up to date on what they were doing that day, what was finished and what was up next. This is rare. You don't get customer service like this anymore. This company exemplifies customer service and it's so important with jobs this big to kept informed. The whole crew went above and beyond my expectations every single day that they were at my home and I knew I was in great hands. They looked out for my best interests every step of the way and this was very refreshing as I had dealt with a few shady contractors during my renovation process. They were also extremely careful with my home and treated it as if it were their own. When they left, my home looked just like it did before they started. They cleaned up behind themselves so carefully and even took time to help out another trade I had working in the backyard. They wanted to make sure I didn't have any issues with another trade. I can't tell you how much I appreciated all of this. Another huge added bonus is that the entire crew was so much fun!! Everyone was amazing and so hard working. They put in 110% effort everyday and worked tirelessly all day long. Like I said before, it's very difficult to find companies with these principles anymore. They showed up every day, they were on time every day, they gave me a great price, they worked exceptionally hard all day, they made sure it was perfect, they cleaned up and they kept me very well informed about everything going on. What more could you possibly ask for? This is why I say I have never been so happy with a trade company! They were a dream. Exactly how you would want a job of this magnitude to go. I will be highly recommending them to anybody and everybody who needs their services. They are the best in the business and I will be having them back to my home for other jobs now too. I am so happy I found them!! I am actually going to miss having them around (for now - as I will be hiring them for everything else I need to do). To Jesse and John and the whole crew - Thank you for everything and for going the extra mile every step of the process !! I couldn't be happier!!

Underpinning

John, Jesse, Louis and team did an excellent job with the underpinning project at my home. The team is very hardworking, professional and just all around great guys. They came early every morning and worked 6 days a week. The project was completed within budget. Part two of the project will be building an extension at the rear of my property and I trust these guys will also do an amazing job with it based on the work completed so far. Stayed tuned for a further review.

internal waterproofing and underpinning the basement floor to 8 feet high

I found these guys on Homestars, I'm ok with their work. I wished I had external waterproofing and underpinning the basement floor. Due to limited budget, we had internal waterproofing and underpinning the basement floor to 8 feet high. They started on time and are working hard everyday and on weekends. Jesse has been a pleasure to work with and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Underpinning / Basement Walkout

I interviewed several companies and chose Maximum to complete our underpinning and basement walkout. Louis, Bill, Justin and the crew did a a great job. Louis, the lead, was always approachable and client focused. He never hesitates to answer our questions and phone calls, and complete touch-up or other work where required. We are in the process of closing our permits and Louis has been extremely responsive to ensure we, as clients, are completely satisfied. With Louis at the helm, I would hire Maximum again as I know he will ensure the job is done right, and clients are satisfied and treated fairly.

More about Maximum General Contracting Inc.

More about Maximum General Contracting:
Basement Lowering
Lowering your basement will be done in the A,B,C method what this means is first we dig out all the A's maximum 4 feet wide, we then form and pour concrete 25 mpa. After that stage we will install 2” inches of dry pack grout. We then go on to do B and C in the same procedure. All stages are inspected by city Inspectors. This is for the underpinning method.

Waterproofing
External Method
Waterproofing can be done either internally, or applied to the exterior of the structure. The exterior waterproofing method is the preferred and better method of handling waterproofing because it does not allow water to seep through the foundation wall once completed. The external method is done by digging down to the foundation. The wall is then wire-brushed and cleaned. The foundation wall is then parged and a rubber coating is applied to the entire exterior "below ground" surface. Finally, it is completed with a waterproof membrane applied over the rubber coating. Once this is completed, 4" diameter weeping tiles are then installed in a trench surrounding the entire building. The weeping tiles are set level with the bottom of the footings, covered with 10" to 12" of 3/4" gravel to assist with drainage. The trench is then back-filled.

Internal Method
If the internal method is used, we cut and remove the floor slabs approximately 12" away from the wall. Earth is then removed right down to the bottom of the footings. We supply and install the waterproof membrane on the foundation wall. Weeping tile is then installed, level with the footing and terminated to a sump-pump pit. The weeping tiles are covered with gravel before concrete is poured over top to create a new basement floor.

Underpinning
Underpinning is the process of strengthening and stabilizing the foundation of an existing building or other structure. Underpinning is accomplished by extending the foundation in depth or in breadth so it either rests on a stronger soil stratum or distributes its load across a greater area. Use of micro piles [1] and jet grouting are common methods in underpinning. An alternative to underpinning is the strengthening of the soil by the introduction of a grout. All of these processes are generally elaborate.
Concrete
Concrete, structural masonry material made by mixing broken stone or gravel with sand, cement, and water and allowing the mixture to harden into a solid mass. The cement is the chemically active element, or matrix; the sand and stone are the inert elements, or aggregate. Concrete is adaptable to widely varied structural needs, is available practically anywhere, is fire resistant, and can be used by semiskilled workers.

Brick and Block Work
A wet brick and block build is constructed with a block built internal skin and cavity followed by a brick external facing, remain the preferred building method of self-builders. Brickwork masonry is produced when a bricklayer uses bricks and mortar to build up structures such as walls, bridges and chimneys. (Brickwork is also used to finish openings such as doors or windows in buildings made of other materials.) Where the bricks are to remain fully visible, as opposed to being covered up by plaster or stucco, this is known as face-work.

Additions and Extensions
In order to do an addition you must first dig and remove the earth down to the level of the new footings which will be formed and poured with concrete, then the cement blocks can be install for the new addition ( you can also pour the foundation wall with concrete)

Bench Footing
Bench footing is done in the 1 to 1 ratio for every 1 foot down you must go out 1 foot. We then go on to install 3” inches of 3/4 inch gravel with weeping tile around perimeter of basement which is terminated to sum pump pit. The pit has a pump which pumps out natural earth water out to side or back of home. The next step is to pour 4” inches of concrete for the slab.

Main Drains / Sump Pumps
The Main Drains / Sump pump are used to remove water that has accumulated in the sump pump pit. A sump pump pit, commonly found in the home basement, is simply a hole to collect water. The water may enter via the perimeter drains of a basement waterproofing system, funneling into the pit, or may arrive because of rain or because of natural ground water, if the basement is below the water table level.
Plans & Permits

Maximum General Contracting will arrange for all required permits to do the work. Should you also require plans to be drawn up, we have an engineer capable of handling all your planning needs.
Radiant Floor Heating
Many of our clients ask about Radiant Floor Heating and we agree that this is an excellent idea because it also helps to keep the basement dry and provides a warm, comfortable floor on which to walk.
