Leaky Kitchen & Bathtub Faucets
A few weeks ago my tenants told me they had a NEW kitchen faucet leak as well as a bathroom faucet leak/drip (long standing). On the word of mouth of my sister, I arranged for a quote & repair with BOSCO HOME SERVICES.
After my appointment was setup - I read MULTIPLE reviews on here, and despite noticing somewhat high prices eg $400-600 for similar repair work, I took heart & comfort in the glowing reviews about one of their techs "M"- and thus in speaking with their dispatcher I requested "M" specifically, which they happily accommodated.
When "M" finally arrived to my tenants home the day of, he was punctual which I appreciated. After about 30 minutes he called me back and described in detail the problems/repairs needed to fix both faucets.
And then - I KID YOU NOT - without batting an eyelid, in the most SERIOUS but kindest voice EVER - he gently quoted me... (drum roll please)... wait for it..... $1000+TAX (incl parts & labour) TO REPLACE THE KITCHEN FAUCET as well as.......!! Another $1100+TAX to replace the BATHTUB FAUCET!
Yes - that is a grand total of OVER $2000 PLUS TAX to replace 2 leaky faucets. I literally DIED on the spot. UNBELIEVABLE.
When I repeatedly asked why the price was so high (because I had budgeted in MY mind b/t $400-$800 ALL IN for BOTH repairs) M explained seeing as it's an old condo my factory original Delta kitchen faucet was hardwired directly into the condo's water supply line THUS they would have to "cut" the lines and put a new valve adapter etc... but at least I'd be getting a SPANKING NEW fancy faucet with sprayer.
He also said the Mixet bathtub faucet was old, parts could not be found to repair it so it'd have to be replaced - and this would mean cutting tile, lots & lots of "labor" intensive work YADDA YADDA. I hate that L word! UGH.
THUS a quote for 2 GRAND for 2 faucet REPLACEMENTS. I think I was silent on the phone for a good 10 seconds - BREATHLESS.
AND it didn't end there. In fact, when "M" noticed I was still choking in silent despair over the skyrocket pricing - he kindly OFFERED me a way to "save" money - i.e. me paying out another $70-$100 for some annual "Gold" package they have for repeat customers - which would end up "saving" me about $100-$200 off the current estimated work. AT THAT POINT - it was just TOO MUCH. I could not WAIT to come off the phone. AND YET the conversation dragged ON and ON as I tried bravely to see if repairs could be done (instead of replacement) - and M continued to try to UPSELL me on the "Gold" package AS WELL AS the actual work.Mike ALSO said it would take "the better part of a day" for ALL the work to be done.
SMH. Finally after being on the phone with M for over 30 minutes I authorized him to charge my credit card for the diagnostic/ assessment fee ONLY ($55). I eventually had to RUSH him off the phone with some false promise of needing to talk the pricing over with my co-owner/partner (my mom). YEA RIGHT.
But instead - I went back Homestars.com - found another legit/reputable contractor w/ equally rave reviews - and the NEXT DAY they did they replaced the kitchen faucet for $180+ tax in LESS THAN 30 MINUTES, and quoted me $450 to fix the bathtub faucet.
YES YOU HEARD ME - I ended up doing 1 of 2 of the repairs for about 1/5 of the price Bosco Home Services quoted me!!
THAT TO ME - is just CRAZY.
And I really do NOT understand why or HOW BOSCO quoted me so INSANELY high for their services - compared to what I actually paid! TO ME - I feel like they tried to pull a fast one on me. Maybe because I am a landlord? Regardless, I am not Donald Trump or Bill Gates to just be spending crazy money on minor repairs. SO NO WONDER I am SO NOT impressed with them, I will never use them again, will NEVER refer them to ANYONE ever and my sister has been turned off from them completely.
2 customers lost in 1 shot!
