Clicklock Premium Metal Roofing

We recently discovered significant moisture and mold in our attic. As we have a 14-month-old baby in the house, we immediately did our due diligence to call in specialist to determine the cause and what steps would need to be taken to remediate the problem. To our dismay, we have since been informed that the mold and significant moisture are a direct result of a very poorly installed ridge vent and otherwise non-existent ventilation in the attic. We now have a letter to that effect.

Ventilation was never a problem prior to installation of the metal roof, nor have any changes to the vapour barrier or insulation been made. During the installation, all of our roof vents were removed and a ridge vent was installed. Given all the problems we have had since the installation of this roof, I am utterly at a loss and livid. The mold is spreading quickly throughout our attic and the roof decking is covered in a thick layer of frost. The moment the weather warms, we will have much more mold and even more water damage. Based on the quotes we have received, we are in the neighbourhood of $9,000 in damages to remediate the mold, air seal and replace the insulation – and this doesn’t even include how to correct the serious ventilation problem. The added bonus is that we have a very large cathedral ceiling, which is likely to have the same damage and will require removal of all drywall and insulation to see the extent of the damage.

We are completely overwhelmed. For all the extra money you spend installing a metal roof over a shingle roof, it is almost obscene to think that you would encounter such issues. We have left a message at the primary number for Clicklock and can only hope that they will come and correct all the damages before they worsen and/or we need to pursue another avenue.

I previously provided a low review, however, I amended it following some measure of remediation, as a result of damage incurred from failed snow guards, was performed by Clicklock and they asked that I remove the review. Given the aforementioned present circumstances, I feel it might paint a more reflective picture of our experience thus far if I repost that review below.

Normally I actively seek to find the good in things and limit any criticisms; however, our experience with Clicklock Premium Metal Roofing has been nothing short of an exhaustive and painful experience. The point of these reviews is to be totally honest and, unfortunately, there is very little positive I can mention.

From the start, the roofing project seemed off to a bad foot. The materials were delivered in a very timely fashion, which was a pleasant surprise, but the materials then sat at the end of our driveway for over three weeks. Not only did the boxes begin to break down, but our neighbours complained and the materials became a complete eyesore. To add insult to injury, the dilapidated boxes were in our driveway for so long that they are even visible in this state in the Google Street View of our home.

After weeks of continually asking when our roof would be started, someone from Clicklock finally pulled the trigger and got a crew out there. The worst thing about this was that our roof had been leaking for the entire duration since the salesperson came around to pitch the roof to us, and Clicklock knew of this throughout our experience. This area of leakage was NOT repaired during the installation.

Once installation started, the roof seemed to go on with relative ease. The crew was fantastic, with the exception of their smoking habits. Several times they would leave butts throughout our backyard. Naturally one of those butts fell on our patio furniture and a hole was burnt into one of our chairs. As bad as that may seem, what I think what was worse was listening to the roofers complain about how disorganized Clicklocks efforts had been to get them out there and how little instruction was given to them. I can’t express the level of confidence that fails to inspire when even the roofers are upset.

Now let’s get to the real juicy part. Our roof was installed in the fall of 2014 and all seemed well leading up to the winter. We had snow guards installed in along the roof over various openings and their installation all seemed legitimate. In the spring of 2015, however, it became clear that many of the snow guards had been completely ripped out of the roof, leaving vacant holes in my roof for who knows how long. There are now large gouges and scrapes in my roof from the missing guards, and the paint is peeling from all the remaining guards. I have since tried reaching Clicklock roofing at least five times, including a detailed email with photos, but to no avail. I have received only one response about two months ago, where they insisted that I provide detailed pictures and that they are not responsible for any damages. I’m sorry, but if the snow guards failed due to improper installation, it becomes the problem of the roofer.

At this point, we are at a total loss and would greatly appreciate a response, but doubt that it will ever come. We are absolutely tired of fighting and are completely astounded that this is the service we have received when spending this kind of money.
