What Wood U Like

We had the opportunity to have work done in our home by What Wood U Like, on 3 different occasions. They came highly recommended to us by a different type of tradesman.
Tony, the owner of the company, his son Brandon and a co-worker Eric were very personable, hard working and trustworthy. We were very comfortable leaving them in our home while we ran errands or giving them a key if we couldn't be home when they were scheduled to arrive.
They installed crown moulding in our family room and we were very pleased with the quality of the work and how clean they worked. When we wanted hardwood installed we gave them a call and again were very pleased with the result. Naturally, when we wanted crown moulding installed in our living room/dining room we called on their skills again.
Not only did they complete the work we contracted but they went above and beyond to assist us with a couple of smaller things which needed to be done. Would we call on them again? Most certainly!

The Crux's

Tony, Brandon and Eric did a great job building our deck, railing, privacy fence for the BBQ and hot tub (with built in stained glass inserts) We went with composite Azek decking and Regal railing and expect the look to last for many years.

Tony and his son Brandon came out to look at our existing deck which had some rot. They were here for at least 30 minutes getting down to the ground, examining all the posts, etc. Of the three people we asked for quotes, they did the most legwork in understanding our requirements.

Unlike the other companies, Tony wanted to deliver the quote personally after he wrote it up. I assumed it was so he could push his business a little. I was wrong. He explained the quote, gave us a diagram of the work and answered all our questions. Then he left it with us to decide. No hard sell at all.

We did choose his company, and were very happy with the results. They didn't rush the work. Because ours was a partial rebuild, he spent extra time reinforcing what was there and in some cases, fixing what was there.

They were very helpful as well as we were getting a hot tub in at the same time. I remember when the new hot tub came, the delivery guys were pretty useless. One of them simply told us we had to remove our gate to get it in. Before I could say anything, Brandon was looking at the post to see how he could do it. That wasn't even their issue to worry about, but they were just that kind of company. When the hot tub guys finally said it was just a different post that had to come out Brandon said no problem, and had it removed. Later that night, I saw that after the tub was in, he had simply replaced the post without asking.

The quote they gave was firm and only one extra cost was added because of a small change from the original agreement. And trust me, given that it was a partial rebuild, if they wanted to try to bill extra - they could've easily claimed more of the existing wood needed to be replaced. But they didn't. They were true to their quote and word.

I've already recommended them to my neighbor and dad.

(update) ... two years later, the deck still looks good. We had one minor issue this summer that the guys came out and fixed.

Unfortunately we have been burned before (different company) when hiring a contractor to complete a job so this made us a little apprehensive about hiring someone again. Tony and his team exceeded our expectations of the pool deck we imagined. They were in, out and done and our kids had the entire summer to swim and enjoy their new pool. We would highly recommend Tony and plan on having them back to complete a few other jobs that are still on our list.

The craftsmanship on the deck, fence and cedar gate is outstanding. Each day the area was left cleaned and tided. Work was completed on time and in an efficient manner.

After numerous quotes from all the "big decking companies" in the area, Tony was able to give us exactly what we wanted in our price range. The quality, craftsmanship and professionalism he and his son Brandon (and the other worker...not sure of his name!) displayed was excellent. We would definitely recommend What Wood U Like for decking and plan on using them to finish our basement in the future.

We moved into a new house without deck. We interviewed several contractors. The reason why we choose Tony(owner) not just because of the reasonable price. The more important thing is the way they finish the work. We applied the permit from city hall. During the inspection, even the city inspector was impressed by Tony's work. The inspector said he usually don't get chance to see such good carpentry job. Tony's team is really easy to work with. They listen to us for all the concerns and questions we have. We are really pleased for the job they did.

We used Tony (owner) and (son) Brandon to install our Deck and Pergola on our new home. They were so easy to work with and we are pleased with the finished product. From design to finished product they were flexible and offered great ideas the end product exceeding our expectations. Home late one evening to find they had added solar lights to highlight the entrance stairs an unexpected welcome addition to the project.
They are professionals and perform their job well, the deck was completed on time and passed all inspections the first time. The deck/pergola is a great addition to our home.
We have used them since to do wood work in the house, and were pleased with the outcome.

We moved into a new house with no deck. What Wood U Like was recommended by a neighbour. We visited and saw Tony's work and were impressed. We also interviewed other people. Tony listened to what we had to say, made some recommendations of his own and did a great job. This was a fairly complicated deck that needed srairs and a platform to the lower garden. We would highly recommend him.
