Nob and tube replacement, pot light installation, and general electrical work

Mapleleaf was referred to me by my insurance company when our home sustained damage during the ice storm in December. We subsequently discovered nob and tube wiring which we didn't know existed. Alex was very quick to respond and got back to me quickly with an estimate to do the repairs, which we found reasonable. They completed a large job in a reasonable amount of time and continue to do work for me. I have dealt with other electricians (as I was renovating a kitchen when Alex and Tyler started the storm repair work) and Alex's team were so much more skilled, personable, responsive and easier to deal with. I would recommend them unconditionally and when we need an electrician again, I will only deal with them.

Replace panel, remove and replace knob and tube`

Alex and his team (Tyler, Ken and maybe one other - -pls forgive me) were nothing short of amazing. They were very competent, efficient and while it's never easy fishing wires through plaster and lath, managed to leave the walls in pretty good condition. They handled all the permits and inspection with the city and did it for a very reasonable price, in my opinion. I've already recommended them, and will do so anytime someone asks for a quality electrical company.

Knob & Tube removal

Alex and his crew get 5 out of 5 stars from us!! We have a very old home & changing anything in here has been quite a challenge. We were very anxious to get started on changing the electrical (we should have scouted around sooner). Alex & his crew started right away for us! They were upfront, accommodating & honest with us. They had some good ideas too. Extremely knowledgeable!! Excellent communication!! If I had to leave a voice mail when I called, I would get an immediate call back. They answered all our questions & put us at ease. They were very patient with us as they couldn't have the inspection completed until we were nearly finished with our bathroom renovations. If you need knob & tube removal you will be in great hands with Mapleleaf Electric!!

Knob & Tube/Potlights/Panel Replacement & Switch Rewiring

My husband and I hired Mapleleaf Electric Inc. after receiving quotes from other reputable electrical contracting companies. Mapleleaf's quote was competitive, but it was Alex's responsiveness that convinced us to hire him and his crew. We are very happy that we did!

Alex, Tyler and Ken did a superb job. We added items to the project mid-stream and they completed the requests without issue. There were very personable and professional throughout. They answered our questions and we felt very informed through the whole project.

I won't hesitate to call Alex again for the additional lighting work we hope to do in the house.

We have already recommended Mapleleaf to our friends and neighbours.

Removal of knob and tube

We moved into our home not knowing nearly the entire place had knob and tube wiring. As you can imagine, we were readily concerned and started looking for an electrician to remove it days after moving in. We met with a few different companies, but decided to work with Mapleleaf Electric as they provided a very comparable and reasonable quote for the job, and also because of the rating they had on this website.

We could not have made a better decision!! Once meeting Alex and his team, we felt very confident they would do a great job as they were very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. We had a few companies in and were disappointed with their level of knowledge and the quote they gave us. The guys not only were working on our house days after calling them, but they worked fast, they were clean and were ALWAYS willing to explain and answer ALL our questions. In addition, they were a pleasure to be around and we felt confident leaving our house open to them. They will be the ONLY company we use from now on, and I recommend them to everyone I know.

Hire them. You won't be disappointed.

Knob & Tube, Pot-lights, and 100-to-200 amp service & panel upgrade

Alex and his crew came in and replaced all the knob & tube in our pre-war house with minimal drilling required (fantastic drywall patching, BTW). Additionally, he put in dining room pot-lights as well as did a full service (including the panel) upgrade - we went from 100 to 200a and everything was handled by them. I very much appreciated how they walked through the work, ensuring that I was kept abreast of the progress. The process could not have been smoother; it almost felt like they weren't there at all!

I highly recommend them for anyone expecting top notch service, attentiveness, and expertise. There's a reason why they're so highly rated!

Wiring for kitchen

Alex and his very skilled team did all the wiring for our new kitchen. This included a range hood, dishwasher, and several plugs. He has an excellent team and I would certainly hire them again.

Knob and Tube replacement, Pot lights

Our 1920's home required knob and tube replacement last fall. Alex and MapleLeaf came highly recommended through friends and I can see why. Not only was he responsive and forthcoming with the scope of work, but also provided better pricing compared to other quotes we received.

The knob and tube was completed in three days with a crew of four. We also had new pot lights and dimmers installed on our main floor. They did an excellent job of minimizing mess wherever possible, and even did rough patching of drywall where they had to pocket the walls. The overall knob and tube replacement is definitely an "unsexy" repair (lots of money with little visible difference) although the new pot lights look great.

It is surprising that some of these other electrical companies can compete against MapleLeaf. It was just a night and day difference in dealing with a professional such as Alex. We have since recommended MapleLeaf to others who have had similar positive experiences. I would definitely hire them again for our next electrical project.

House re-wiring

Alex and his crew were AMAZING!! They were available on relatively short notice to accommodate our moving timelines and were very very punctual and efficient. They were very thoughtful about how many holes they put in the walls (much appreciated). When we had an electrical issue the next day (nothing to do with their work) they came back immediately to research the issue. Their customer service was amazing and they left the house very clean considering the work that was done. Please don't hesitate to call these guys. Their prices were the best and well worth it.

Knob and tube wiring replacement

While most of the knob and tube wiring in our 1918 house was removed in an earlier renovation, quite a bit still remained in our dining room and living room walls and ceilings. We turned to HomeStars to find a reputable company to replace these ancient circuits. Mapleleaf Electric Inc. caught our eye because of the company's excellent feedback rating, as well as its proximity to our house. I emailed the company to arrange for a quotation and the owner, Alex, got back to me very quickly. Within 24 hours he arrived to inspect the work to be done. I liked the fact that Alex was very thorough during his inspection. He used special circuit testers to identify not only the knob and tube runs, but also to check the "good" grounded wiring. It was painstaking work, as the knob and tube ran everywhere. We also asked Alex to wire new light fixtures and additional electrical outlets in the two rooms. The most difficult job called for the installation of new pendant lights in our dining room to replace ungrounded c. 1918 light fixtures. The catch: The four light fixtures were located where our dining room ceiling beams intersected. Because it was so difficult to fish wire through these wooden beams, which are only partially hollow, most of our neighbours with homes of the same age didn't bother to replace the original fixtures when they had new wiring put in. But I told Alex that we definitely wanted new lights in the beams. He said that he was confident that Mapleleaf Electric could do the job. Alex told me that the new fixtures should be CSA (UL) certified. He said he would not install anything else, because all of his work is ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) inspected. He sent his quote within 24 hours. While we might have found any number of electricians to do the job for less, we were confident that we wouldn't find anyone better, so we hired Mapleleaf Electric on the spot. As agreed, Alex and his team (three apprentice electricians) arrived exactly two weeks later at the appointed time of 8:00 am. They were very pleasant and worked with surprising speed and efficiency. It was a dirty job - the old wiring was filthy - but they took care to clean up as they went. They used the longest drill bits that I have ever seen, four to six feet long and highly flexible, to fish new wire through wall cavities, ceilings and the wooden beams in our dining room. I watched them work from a distance and was totally impressed. To fish through the wooden beams, they had to drill two additional small holes in the dining room ceiling and one in the wall, but the balance of their work was totally invisible and non-invasive. They intended to fill the three holes but I said I would do it myself, as I was planning other renovations in the dining room anyway. They wrapped up the job that day, before 4:00 pm. All of their work is perfect and we are extremely pleased. Alex was not available for the electrical inspection the next day, but he explained what would happen and what I should do. When he arrived, the ESA inspector said he was familiar with Mapleleaf Electric's work and had never had a problem with the company. He told me he was impressed with their work, particularly the difficult fish through the dining room beams. He gave Mapleleaf Electric a gold star. We're giving them one too!
