Alex, the owner of MapleLeaf takes significant pride in his company and the work his staff performs. He was attentive and responsive when we had questions about our electrical issues, and was quick to resolve them for us.

ESA complance

It's hard to argue with success. There are hundreds of 10/10 reviews for this company on Homestars. Regrettably, ours is not one of them.

Our project was simple - conduct a series of updates to remedy a number of aluminum wiring deficiencies identified by the ESC. The work started out fine, but it was apparent that as the job progressed, that the electrician that was assigned to our job had under estimated the level of effort required to complete the job. As a result, a number of details remained incomplete - loose outlets in the wall, missing junction box covers, and one light that ceased to function altogether. When I approached the project lead, he was dismissive of my concerns, prompting us to go to Alex, the owner of the company.

Alex on the other hand, was exceptionally responsive. He arrived on schedule with the original project lead and another employee and spent the better part of the morning reviewing, inspecting and completing the work. At the end of it all, the work was completed properly.

Our feeling is that if we'd worked with Alex initially, that our review would have matched the sentiment of virtually everyone else on this site. And, it is unfortunate that the inaction of one employee has tarnished the reputation of this otherwise flawless company.

I don't know that the Homestar rating method is completely fair. Mapleleaf looses big points on the question of whether I would recommend them to my mother - well, no. But, with the help of Alex, my satisfaction of the work went from a 1 to a 4.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Institute a customer service policy allows customers to provide project feedback. Many customers know very little and may not feel comfortable confronting a contractor if they have questions or concerns.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Know what to expect and understand the difference between work that is well versus poorly done. The ESA offers many guidelines. Hold your contractor to account.
