For my long distance move, I hired a company that - as it turns out - completely screwed me (I'm reviewing them separately). On the first of the month, I was left with no mover, and I had to get out because the new tenant was coming that evening or the following day. Thankfully, my landlord was good about it, however I still had to get my stuff out - I could store it in the garage.
I found LIFT labour on Kijiji. LIFT is Steve, and Steve is awesome. A former stockbroker and a very gregarious guy, he'll keep you entertained while doing a great job. A totally straight-up honest worker, with a team of guys to call on when extra hands are needed. They swiftly and carefully moved my stuff out of the apartment and into the garage, saving the day.
Steve then bent over backwards to help me find a moving solution at the last minute, whether I went with him or not.
Not a moving company proper, but a labour service - he'll drive your Uhaul, lift your stuff, or, as it seems, anything else you might need. Thanks for a great job! It's refreshing to find honest, good people amidst the scammers and incompetents.
