"Reid-built Home Buyers" Facebook Group

We have a build in construction at the moment, that has been sitting there for the last 4 months. They winterized our build but we are getting no answers from the receivership company or AHNW. So we created a facebook support group to help each other through this nightmare and get some some answers. Please request to join "Reid-built Home Buyers" Facebook Group if you are going through this situation.

New build in Chestermere

To the reviewer below, we are also in the same boat. They have our down payment and we are also concerned. All I've been told to do is to wait and see if they are able to sell by the end of this month. What happens if they can't sell? Will they try to sell for another 6 months? a year? who knows. No one could tell me for sure, so how long does one wait? Apparently our deposits are covered under the Alberta New Home Warranty program but that is only in the event that they DO declare bankruptcy. They aren't bankrupt yet.. only trying to sell off their assets.

New build

Hello,

We've just found out that Reidbuilt homes is having financial problems with their company and so they have put all the New build contracts on hold. Does anyone have any comments on what's going on, or suggestions on what we can do as the purchasers has put a down payment on their new build and is concerned?

Edmonton New home build - poor customer service. Watch out for the warranty department!

Customer service is poor with a lot of miscommunication and disconnect. The only people that were nice to talk to were the people from the Design centre and the trades people that come to your place to do repairs. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like they have a lot of power for craftsmanship quality. Paid on commission with minimal efforts in quality. I had multiple concerns, including my neighbours upset with how Reidbuilt treats them over the phone even though they don't even own a Reidbuilt home.

Once you move in, you have no direct contact with them the people in the design centre. I paid $500 for a garbage pull-out...it looks like something you can build yourself from Canadian Tire. Don't upgrade your kitchen with them...do it after the fact with the Gem cabinets. I've been told that Gem will give you one of the top of the line garbage pull-outs for the same price.

They have a program called Launchpad, which is used to update buyers of the home building progress. Two months before possession it states that the interior of the home is complete. I get a date for the walkthrough one week before possession and the final touches are not complete. From the day of the walkthrough to possession was one of the worst customer service experience I've had. They want your money and they want you to move in as fast as possible.

They build decent starter homes if you want just the basics. Beware of the site supervisor and warranty. Some are brand new and suck. Some have been around for decades that know their stuff, but again...their customer service skills can be improved.

Consider building a basic starter home with them, make sure the layout and plot size fits what you want. Cost is relatively cheap and don't expect high quality materials with the upgrades. Just don't do upgrades with them. Period. They don't know much about bulkheads or wood laminate floorings on stairwells or moving windows and walls. They are by no means flexible.

I would not recommend building an estate home or something modern with them. When I found out that they were building in Jensens Lakes...I felt sorry the current buyers and for the future buyers of Reidbuilt.

Modern and customizable layouts, customer service, and quality are their weakness. There are better builders out there.

New Build in Chestermere

Stair stringer that visibly cuts into doorway. We were told it was because we altered the design. Funny as we went with their posted floor plan option. Just one of many things that went wrong that they were unwilling to fix. Do yourself a favor - go with another builder.

service

We built a house with Reidbuilt Houses. The position date was April 8, 2015. We filled three month warranty list. Our warranty expiration date is April 8, 2016. However even until now, there are some items were not completed yet. We emailed and called the warranty department many times but there were no reply.
We feel as though they have been ignoring our requests and they want to avoid any repairs even when they were under the warranty.

Stay away, this builder is horrible. I advise you avoid this builder at any cost. I have very bad experience with this builder. The sales rep is good and trustworthy. The site supervisor is useless.

New Home Build

I'm sad to see similar reviews.....
We started paperwork with Reidbuilt back in March 2014, and at this point...we have NO idea when our house will be completed. Our original possession date was for June 4th, 2015, but when they hadn't started digging in January, and our stakes had been knocked over by neighboring contractors, our concern started to grow. It seemed to us that the only reason they remembered about our home was that we called to let them know about the stakes, or lack of.

The possession date then bumped to the end of July, and now Reidbuilt won't tell us anything, that possession date information is for the "BANK ONLY". Sorry, but the bank isn't the one waiting to move into their home. WE ARE. We have already had to renew our mortgage approval, and get extensions.

To add to our frustration, two Reidbuilt spec homes were started less than two months ago beside ours, and they are now at the SAME point in construction.

I don't think we have been pushy customers, we have contacted them only a handful of times, mainly for bank reasons, or to find out what our postal code is, and we have been made to feel like a nuisance.

The company's only shining star is Andriana, the community sales rep. We would have to exclude her from this review, as she was extremely helpful and thoughtful throughout our time with her. Unfortunately she has nothing to do with the building process now.
