An assisted review is collected by a contractor on behalf of the homeowner after their work is completed. The homeowner must confirm the text of the review and may make any changes she or he deems appropriate. The homeowner then assigns the contractor a review score out of 10. Assisted reviews receive the same scrutiny as other reviews and must follow our review guidelines.
Moved into house and needed some repairs done. GarCon was responsive in giving us a quote and they completed the repairs in a fairly timely matter. We had GarCon do the following:
- Repair a hole in our subfloor
- Vent dryer outside
- Reinforce support beams in basement (due to crack in one of the original beams)
- Move our attic access
- Repair a structural beam in the attic that had been cut
- Install a Range Hood above our stove with venting outside
- Convert a plaster closet to drywall pantry
- patch holes in the wall
- upgrade our electrical box
- fix some wiring in the kitchen
- fix lights that were improperly installed.
In general we were extremely happy with the repairs and work that was done. The quality of the work that was done was always extremely high.
We only had two issues:
1) They did not put up any form of protection when tearing down plaster in our kitchen (despite re-assurances from the foreman that they would). I think this was an unfortunate oversight on their part, but it left our entire main floor covered in white dust that we are still cleaning 6 months later. Fortunately, when moving our attic they properly put up plastic to block much of the dust from spreading (very effective).
2) When repairing the hole in the floor they did not put in any additional support meaning that I still sink a little when I step in the repaired area. The foreman also made a comment that it was not acceptable, went downstairs and then dropped the issue a bit later. My guess is that the issue was dropped due to the way the repair was done. To put in the additional support would have required undoing the repair which would have created more damage then was worth. The repair itself was extremely well done.
Aside from those two issues their repairs were extremely well done. The staff was courteous and friendly. They were also very economical and met our budget. Our original quote was for 8000-9000, but they had to increase the amount midway through due to unforeseen electrical issues (upgrading our electrical box to properly support adding and fixing our electrical sockets). Their new quote of 12000 was also quite reasonable, and I think this would have occurred with any construction company. This also caused them to be a bit delayed in completing our project.
I would recommend them again and dock them only 1 star due to the two above issues which were not to major given the scope of the project.
