Insurance co. no longer wanted to provide insurance for my small, old rental bldg. that was 60 amps and possibly some knob & tube. An electrician suggested I have PowerCheck do an assessment as they are independent and would not be biased as to what repairs would be required as they don't do the work. Also, was convinced that insurance co.'s recognize PowerCheck (found to be untrue). Did receive detailed info, but the assessment took much longer than originally planned. Ended up rushing through the last two suites. If you are knowledgeable about your bldg. or have an electrician you trust, the PowerCheck assessment is not necessary. Especially if the wiring is old as it will get a med to high risk rating. Getting advice and quotes from various electricians is the better way to go. Had to do that anyway in order to have the repairs done.
