Dangerous defects and inflexible returns

Had a stool that broke after 10 months. My three-year-old was sitting on it and could have really gotten hurt. The company will replace that stool under warranty but refuses to take back the other ones, even though two of them are brand new still in the boxes, and even though I wanted to exchange them for other stools that cost twice as much. Was a loyal customer but will never buy from them again. Obviously they don't stand behind their products, and I'm afraid to let my kids sit on the stools.
