The only good thing that I have to say about my experience with Clearview Plumbing is that it is over. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. I called Clearview Plumbing for an Air Conditioning Tune-up that they had advertised for $119. On the first visit, the technician was very professional and inspected my AC system. He gave me a list of what was wrong and two options to fix it. One option was what he called a “band-aid” solution and the second was a more complete solution, which obviously, was a little bit more expensive. There wasn’t much of a difference in price, so I decided on the more complete solution. That quote was $1800.00. The technician asked that I pay for half of the job up front and the other half upon completion. I admit, my mistake, but I was told that it was company policy to do that. I then booked an appointment 2 business days later to have the work completed.
On that day, I was not home, only my wife was. They sent a different technician who was not brought up to speed as to what work needed to be done. Again, he was very professional and pleasant to deal with. He did an inspection of my AC system and informed my wife that there was now $4500.00 worth of work that needed to be done. He actually gave us a number of options depending on how complete we wanted the unit fixed. These quotes ranged from $3800 to $4500. Again, with there not being a huge difference in cost, we decided to go with the “best” option and most complete fix for $4500. The technician was aware however that we had already paid almost $1000 (but yet he didn’t know what work had to be done) so he said that we would not have to pay any more money upfront. About an hour after the visit to my home, I got a call at work from the Clearview office saying that my credit card was charged an additional $932 as they assumed that the initial work had been completed. Apparently, they were unaware that the cost had gone up and no work had been done. So at this point I am in for $1800 and nothing has been done to fix my AC system. I told Clearview that right now, I was not satisfied and that they were not allowed to come back to my home and that I would like a refund of my money. I was told that was fine. I called the next day to see if my refund had been processed and guess what, it wasn’t. I was given a speech about how he had screwed up and charged my card in error and that the technician who came to my house on the first visit was “not really an air conditioning guy” and that the second guy was “the best there was”. I was also told that both technicians and the service manager were going to sit down and discuss what went wrong. My question then was, why send out someone to fix an air conditioning unit who doesn’t know completely what he is doing? I again asked for my refund to be processed.
I will say that they offered to do the $4500 worth of work for the original quote of $1800, but at this point I was fed up with the lines I was being fed from them, I told them that I just wanted my money back. I didn’t trust them to stand behind that promise.
I did eventually get my refund, less the cost of the site visit, which is fair. I contacted another HVAC company (also on HomeStars) and now my air conditioning unit is running perfectly and the total cost was $393. That’s 8% of the quote that Clearview Plumbing gave me.
So if you are thinking of using Clearview Plumbing, I strongly encourage you to get other quotes at the same time, which is something I did not do and that was my mistake. And it almost cost me dearly.
