Lawn Fertilization

So what does lawn service have in common with satellite radio service? Basically, the service continues until you cancel. The service is essentially "automatic" or a "pain in the posterior" depending on your viewpoint. The lawn service will run you about $200 for 4 or 5 treatments which includes fertilizer and spot weed killer. Many of the smaller lawn service companies have been absorbed by larger ones so you are left with a "Walmart" service. What other reviewers have mentioned is true, namely that they constantly try to sell you add-on services. Your lawn is not doing that well. How about an alfalfa treatment? You may as well have over-seeding done too. The lawn is looking a little brown. You had better get the insect treatment. We should fertilize your trees also. Don't forget about the aeration. Every additional service will hit you with close to another $100 each. I'm pretty sure they hire summer students put into the field after a short training period. The information on the billing left in your mailbox is routine. "Sorry we missed you." Really? I was at home while you were doing your application in my yard and you didn't knock or ring the bell. If you are looking to avoid the labour of applying different types of fertilizer over the course of the season, you can use this service as a reasonable option. Don't expect any special treatment for your lawn or professional advice. It's all routine with likely almost every customer getting the same "advice". Look to a smaller firm with seasoned professionals. You may pay more but, as always, you get what you pay for. Oh and if you think that you are done with them after the fall, no, they will try and sell you their ice melt.

Set up on Auto without permission

I asked them to come out and fix my lawn last year, other then them never telling me when they were coming I couldn’t complain much. Early this year I received a letter telling me what they will be charging for my lawn care in 2014 (was WAY more than the year before). I called them in Feb 2014 and said I wanted the estimate re-evaluated and nothing to be done until I call them. Well life happened and I was away from March to the start of June. They did not honour my request for nothing to be done, they sent me a letter and then they sent out someone to “do” the lawn. I would have wanted to be there to direct them as to what them to do and more important agree to the cost of services via phone. The company didn’t do this. BEWARE the company will auto sign you for stuff and it’s OK because they sent you a letter. All very legal DON'T get caught like I did!

Yearly yard maintenance

Every year I get this company to do my lawn and each year they make promises they don't keep. With my dog they promised to call ahead so I could get my dog back in the house. They have yet to do this. They were insistent on coming out yesterday (May 9) to do the aeration and over-seeding. I put my hip out trying to get all the raking done before they came. They didn't show. I phoned today - they will TRY to get someone here and no valid reason for not showing up yesterday. I told them either do it today or refund my entire season of lawn maintenance.

Lawn Maintenance

I contacted Nutri Lawn (now known as GREENLAWN) to do a one time application for weed control which they did promptly. Over the next six months, they proceeded to hound me with weekly calls wanting me to agree to a contract, more applications, etc. I flat out said no and by the third month - told them to take me off their contact list which they never did.

They continued to hound me into the spring. One day my wife came home to find their truck blocking our driveway and told the Nutri Lawn employee to move it or it would be towed. She later realized they had done an application on our lawn and left a bill in the mailbox.

Having had enough, I filed a complaint with Service Alberta under the Consumer Protection Act stating that the actions taken by Nutri Lawn constituted a negative option contract and such contracts in Alberta are illegal. Nutri Lawn was ordered by the Alberta Government in 2011 to cease such practices.

Those experiencing the same issue with Nutri-Lawn can file a complaint with Service Alberta under the Fair Trading Act. For those who don't know, a negative option contract is where a vendor assumes that a contract is in place unless you act.

NutriLawn/Tru Green

The absolute WORST customer service. They could care less about serving the customer. They called to say were coming (I have a dog). Never came. I called again.Said they would be there in an hour. Never came, never called. I called the next day. Nothing. I called 2 days later. Said they would send someone out. They finally did. I sent them a lengthy emil detailing the horrific customer service. No response. I finally cancelled my service after 6 years. Nothing from management.

Seeding and fertilization

Absolutely horrible service. We had them treat and seed our yard last year. We have landscaping rocks trimming the inside of of yard around the fence. We were hesitant because we did not want grass seed in our rocks. They assured us that it would not happen so we took a chance kind of like Russian Roulette as it turned out. They spread seed all over the rock and even on our deck. We called them and told them what happened. We were told a Manager would call back. It took them about 2 months to come and spray grass kill on the rocks. We warned them not to kill our lawn. Brian, the "manager" said he was "like a surgeon" and it would be okay. We also told him they should be removing the grass in the rocks because in 8 years living here, we have maintained it quite well. He basically ignored us. Guess what, a couple weeks later you could see they killed a lot of good grass in our yard. After several more phone calls and almost a year after they initially came, the showed up to reseed the grass they killed. They still are refusing to remove the grass in the rocks. Now I have to spend hours getting my yard back to how it was before they came. Go anywhere else, these people have the worst service I have ever seen.

Lawncare followup call

I was called by a representative today to plan out this year's lawn care service. I explained to the rep that I had already cancelled last year. He proceeded to tell me that he would give me a discount for this year (which I notice on the website is being offered to everyone). I told the rep that I would have to think about it, and then promptly hung up on me when I did not commit to the service. Poor customer service I'd say.
