We purchased an entire bedroom set from Applegate and James in February of 2014. We decided to support a local small business and get something of good quality. After much discussion, we decided that $7500 was our budget for a bedroom set + a good mattress. We found a set we absolutely loved at Applegate and James. We went into the store already knowing what we wanted, it was an easy sale. The salesman told us that the set included everything on the showroom floor: The bed, dresser, mirror, one nightstand, and chest. We added another nighstand to our bill because we wanted 2. When we added on the mattress that we liked it came to about $7400. We thought 'PERFECT'! It's expensive, but it is good quality and we will have it for a long time. The salesman commented on the chest, demonstrating how deep the drawers were. He said 'YOU WILL LOVE THIS CHEST, YOU CAN FIT SWEATERS IN THE DRAWERS!' We had to wait about 7 weeks for it to be delivered as they had to make it after we ordered. We paid our deposit and left. When the furniture was delivered just recently, there was no chest. My fiance questioned the men who were delivering the furniture and they said to call the store the following business day. When my fiance called, we were instructed that the chest wasn't included and wasn't on our invoice. Upon looking at our invoice, it was all serial numbers. No names of the pieces that were included. We were upset. We were looking forward to this set. We had spent a lot of money at this business, and then we were told that it would be another $1600.00 plus tax for the chest if we wanted it, and it would have to be ordered. We purchased this set when it was on sale, and the manager indicated that no, she was not going to even give us the sale price of the chest. We had to keep calling back to see if there was any way they could resolve this for us. We indicated to the sales person that we wanted EVERY piece of furniture that was on the showroom floor. He understood that, made up the work order, and we paid! Had we known that this bedroom set was going to be almost $10,000, we would not have purchased it. We would have said thanks anyway, but kept looking. My fiance needs a dresser. Unfortunately keeping his clothes on the floor is not really an option in our household. And we are not willing to pay $1600 for the chest after just spending our budget on the rest of the furniture. We were told it was included, so it should be there. If a business makes a mistake, the onus is not on us as a consumer to fix it. We were willing to compromise (pay the cost value of the chest) but that was not an option for this business. They would not take ownership for their mistake. After the manager was a complete snob about the whole ordeal, we decided that we wanted the bedroom set returned. The owner stated that if we would like to return it, they are going to charge a 30% restocking fee. So now we are stuck with a bedroom set without a dresser, our room is half complete. And we are definitely NOT ordering the dresser from Applegate and James. We have an entire new home that we are furnishing and will NOT be giving Applegate and James our business. I would NOT recommend shopping there if customer service is important to you!
