If you are looking for a company to asphalt your driveway go with someone else! If you look through all the reviews you can see a common theme - when they make a mistake on a job they will not make it right. I wrote a long review about our horrible experience with Birch but it exceeded the character limit so I have to sum it up. Im sure they are capable of doing a good job sometimes, the reason you should not go with this company is that when they make a mistake they will not come back and fix it. We had Birch do our driveway, there are many issues with it - visible lines where the hand raked asphalt meets the machine laid asphalt, they hand tamped the asphalt by the interlock curb lower than the curb, when I pointed that out Greg (owner) was aware of the issue and started yelling at one of the employees but obviously would have left it if I hadn't mentioned it. They put a layer on top to match the height of the interlock but now you can see the area they patched. The biggest issue that we have is that they never put a base of gravel down like they assured me they would to level the driveway out prior to laying the asphalt, and they laid the asphalt 1 1/2 out of level due to this. One of our curbs is 1 1/2 higher than the other side due to the existing patio. Unfortunately, he poured the asphalt unlevel towards this higher curb and now the driveway has a 3 slope over 3 feet and looks awful. Had he put the gravel base down like he said he would and leveled the driveway side to side it would have only been 1 1/2 slope, which would have looked a lot better. I discussed with the sales rep prior to Birch coming to put the asphalt down that they hadnt done the base yet, he said they would do it the day of the asphalt. When Greg showed up the next week to pour the asphalt he didnt come with his machines or gravel. Before he started I said the base wasnt done yet and he said the base was perfect as is and nothing needed to be done. Him being the professional I trusted him, but now I can see he was cutting corners at the end of the day because thats the reason it looks so terrible. For 6 weeks after the job was complete we tried to get in contact with Greg but he wasnt returning calls or coming down to discuss the issue. We left one final message about how frustrated we were with it, Greg finally called me back furious and was very heated, yelling and talking through me for 10 minutes, saying he did a perfect job and the reason it looked bad is because of the higher curb. I explained over and over again how I know the one side is higher than the other side, but due to him not levelling the base out prior to asphalting it he laid it down unlevel across the whole driveway THE OPPOSITE WAY and now it has a massive slope over 3 feet that looks awful and could have been avoided if they put the base down properly, and his asphalt. I tried asking him that if he didnt understand the issue to please come down and look at it in person so we could discuss it, he wasnt interested in that and said he did it perfect, berated me for 10 minutes and then hung up on me. Now he won't return my calls so all I can do is warn anyone reading these reviews there are other paving companies out there with way better reviews and there is a reason for that! I have never written a review for any company before and am only doing it for any prospective customer's benefit. Take a minute to read through any of the negative reviews on here and you will see they they are each responded to by the company with a condescending message blaming the homeowner and taking no responsibility whatsoever, showing no interest in actually listening to them or helping fix things. If this is how you would like to be treated when your hard earned money gets you a messed up looking driveway then by all means go with Birch.
