We do not own this property, we rent it, and when we took possession June 2023 the house was less than a year old. The carpet everywhere on all floors is not properly adhered to the subfloor and it keeps coming up, fraying and curling over everywhere, especially around the spindles on the stairs. Pieces of millwork have popped off the cabinets all by themselves with nobody even around them, including in the middle of the night while we're sleeping. And it's easy to see why, 3-ft sections are only adhered with two tiny little finishing nails. Two of our towel racks came crashing down the first time we tried to put anything on them and they won't go back up. I'm going to have to use super glue to get them to stay on the mounts. I spoke with the former tenant and he said it's been like that since the beginning. I had to get hooks to hang on the top of all the bathroom doors because the other ones are non-functional. One of the knobs for the upstairs bathroom tub falls off in your hand if you don't push it in while you turn it. Yesterday I went to the basement to look for something and discovered there was mold growing on several of our items in the storage room. This is despite the fact that there is no water tank in that storage room, it's in the other room where the laundry facilities are. It means the vapor barrier isn't doing its job in there and, long-term, this is going to be a nightmare for the owners and for anyone living in here. I have a big allergy to mold and I wondered why I suddenly needed allergy meds every single day when I haven't had any in years, now I have the answer. When we moved in there were several dozen pieces of green painters tape stuck to the wall all over the house and on the trim. The folks that own the house that rented it to us said the builders were supposed to come back in and touch those spots up, so Claridge apparently put green painters tape on the walls to mark it for later. But painters tape isn't supposed to be on walls for 48 hours, not 2 and 1/2 years, and combined with the moisture in the house, because it's incredibly damp in here, a lot of the paint and even drywall is coming off with the tape if you try and remove it. Right after we moved in they installed grass, but a huge chunk of it was already dead and consequently has never grown in. We wanted to be able to water the lawn but the back faucet doesn't work and there is nowhere in the house that you can turn it on. We spoke to several of the neighbors and they have that same issue. They installed some sort of metal access panels in the lawn that stick really far out above the ground level. My lawn mower hit one and I had to replace the blade. Lastly, who does not put eavestrough on a house as a basic option?! The rain pours straight down off the house and the tiny little poorly built deck off the back of the house that is only big enough for one person to stand on is already full of green mold or algae and the wood is starting to break apart as a result. Again, this house is now just over 2 years old, not 50 years old. Also, the water is not draining away from the house and it's draining into the window well of the basement rec room. It means that there's going to be a lot of erosion of the soil around the house and its foundation
This is the 21st house I've lived in, 14 of which I've owned, and I've never seen such poor & lazy craftsmanship. My father is a contractor, he was disgusted. I'm grateful that this is not my investment, but my landlord said they had purchased this house for their parents' eventual for retirement. I feel terribly for them because this was an awful investment.
