Old Furnace died in April 2010, so was able to take my time to look around for a replacement. Old was a Carrier Weathermaker high efficiency so new would have to be as good, or superior. Decided after research to look for a two stage high efficiency with var speed DC blower motor, as Ontario grant program was still in place.
Contacted four companies in total, one in Tavistock, three in Stratford. All four were good with service and had competetive prices (prices were 3800 no thermostat, 3900 with thermostat, 3900 no thermostat, and 4400 with thermostat, all prices including standard installation)
Dave Davies was a step ahead of all the others, with a very competitive price, a 'no-dicker' price also (3900 plus tax installed, including a condensate pump, based on a standard replacement install, running new pipes where old ones were located, furnace location kept same, etc.), strong recommendations from a few people I spoke with, and also my personal opinion of them.
Installation went ahead on the day scheduled (November 15), with two employees arriving within half an hour of the time scheduled. Removal went well, and installation was done well, and efficient. In at 9 am roughly, out by 330 pm. Ken and Domenic were funny, articulate, personable, and knew exactly how to do things properly.
Furnace off switch needed to be moved, Ken ran it using existing holes in joists (it's an old house, and doesn't need more holes drilled!) to a better location above door to furnace room.
Furnace is now a Lennox G-61v high efficiency two stage natural gas 90,000 btu input at 95%, with a modulating DC fan motor. Including relocating the off switch, and the condensate pump, price was exactly as quoted, $3900 plus HST
I could not be happier with Dave Davies of Stratford!
