New Home
I hope you are reading this before you buy and not after like myself. Had I read some of these negative reviews, I probably wouldn’t be in the position of adding to them. Although we like our home (half duplex in Lakeland Ridge) the workmanship is definitely third rate. The only thing worse than the workmanship is their after sales service. The warranty department at Landmark is about as helpful as a screen door on a submarine. We have had numerous problems, mostly dealing with poor workmanship, and the standard answer we get from Landmark is “that’s normal”.
Here are a few of the issues we have had in our year with Landmark. The day after we moved in we went to use the dishwasher for the first time but there was no power to it. When I called Landmark I was told they could get someone to come look at it in 2 to 3 weeks. I had to threaten to park in front of their show home with a sign before they agreed to get someone there that day. Turned out it was poor wiring that could have easily caused a fire. Our basement window would not open because it was put in improperly. Landmarks answer, Not much we can do about it. Our water heater / furnace was not working and we have had the plumber here 4 times in the past year. The drain pipe from the bathtub was not connected properly and the first time the tub was drained most of the contents came down through the ceiling in to our kitchen. The answer from Landmark was “we’ll see when we can get someone out to look at it”. I happened to see the plumbers truck a few doors down so I got him myself to come and check it out, but it was days later before Landmark actually called me back. Our basement floor has many cracks in the concrete, “that’s normal”. Our garage floor is cracked and heaving ,”that’s normal”. The snap ties in the basement walls were not sealed properly and we had a half inch of water in our basement. At least this time they didn’t say it was normal. We had a smashed in drain spout when we moved in and I’m still trying to get that repaired. There should have been a grate in the sidewalk where the downspout is but ours was never installed. At our 3 month inspection Robert told me I should go and steel one from one of the units that hasn’t been sold yet. I did that and the house I took it fro still hasn’t had one installed. These are things that are specific to our unit but the entire complex is a mess. Seeing that there are no storm sewers, Landmarks solution is to run hoses from everybody’s sump pump on to the road. In the 15 months we have lived here the road has never been dry, except in the winter when it is 12 inches of ice that they do dot remove.
Please, if you are considering buying a Landmark home, do your homework and talk to a few of the previous buyers.
