STAY AWAY!

I bought a new build house through sunlight heritage homes and want to help other buyers steer clear of what will be a headache.

It started with the design team. The young girl working did not give me all options available. I picked black windows and during building I noticed the windows on the front of the house were black and all other windows were white. This is not what I agreed to. I was told this was in the fine print and that I shouldve read the 40 page small print document in more detail. You would think the design team would make you aware of this. Also everything is an upgrade. When picking the exterior colours (I chose all dark) the garage comes in white. Therefor having to upgrade the garage to black to match everything else. This cost was the price of a new garage door on top.

This company puts up houses as fast as they can and use tradesmen who obviously bid at the lowest possible number. Although they have eradicated some issues after fighting tooth and nail to get issues fixed they still refuse to fix items. I will be going through tarion to help assist me with getting them done.

Some of the issues Ive had:
-Shingles were redone due to clay being baked in from workers boots.
-exterior lights being hung upside down with calking being an inch and a half thick (looks so bad)
-garage door had to be replaced due to bubbling.
-Exterior siding above garage was redone 3 times due to worker having no idea what hes doing.
-drain pipes crooked all the way down.
-window sills not slanted away from the windows (pooling water)
-fuse boxes left live and not finished.
-doors not installed properly, wouldnt slide or open correctly/wind coming through.
-curb intruding driveway by 2 feet.
-light switch plates being literally cut to fit shelving (not joking)
-exterior window wells left with dirt in them and not cleaned out and little to no stone in them.
-cheap driveway installed after grass so grass does not butt up against the driveway.
-doorbell out on the inside of the jam facing inward. They state this is normal and deal with it.
-vents cheap and noisy and slam with very little wind. They stated their heating guy stated its fine. When he came out he fixed one and stated he was scared of heights and would come back and never did.
-electrical issues galore

This company uses the cheapest materials and will not help you. They use an online forum and will not pick up the phone or talk to you. The communication aspect is the MOST frustrating part of the whole process. Nobody cares, nobody wants to help and they play hardball with anything that needs to be fixed.

At first I wondered if I was being picky but after speaking to other builders and agents Ive learned they do NOT have a good reputation. Some of the contractors coming out to fix issues literally laughed at the work done and also state Sunlight heritage homes have a TERRIBLE reputation.

You will notice their 5 star reviews are all family and friends like other people have stated.

Honestly the market/economy is changing and prices are dropping. Go to a reputable builder and stay away from this company. They are just out for a quick buck and care nothing about YOU as the buyer.

Service

This is one of the worst builders that we ever had. No after service. Once the building is handed over, if we communicate for any service, no response. We hardly get any reply to the mails.

House

Lilly at the design center was very pushy, clueless and confused at numerous times, and tried to sell us standard features at the upgraded cost. She was also very uninformed of the promotions that were rightfully ours after we purchased the house. Her knowledge of products and interior design were absolutely horrendous. Both her and the builder just nickel and dimed us to death.
Communication while building this house in London (Cedarhollow subdivision) was a constant battle with the builder. Wilson was only present on the PDI day. The house was built right on schedule.
Chris was the building supervisor on the lot and was there all the time. While Chris was a nice person, he severly lacked the knowledge in most areas and felt like he was learning as he went. The contractors did a bum's rush job on a lot of aspects of the house. If there was a problem after filing with TARION, the issue usually gets resolved a few months after the complaint filed.

We have lived in this new house for 8 months now (moved in Spring 2015). Overall, we haven't had too many issues (new builds always have some problems) and are lucky that we haven't had any major issues like flooding.
Overall, we are generally pleased with the house and the house could have been built a lot worse; but ourselves AND our neighbours would definitely NOT recommend this builder to any of our friends looking at buying a new house.

New Home Builder

Our experience with this builder has been a neverending nightmare, mostly due to their arrogant and inexperienced designer, Lilly, who rushed us thru our design selection, making numerous mistakes, and charging us for "upgrades", which were in fact standard. Now we are fighting to be reimbursed for those. We submitted a long list of deficiencies to Tarion to be addressed. Wilson, the builder, is a nice guy, but his subcontractors do sloppy, rushed work. For the price that we paid for our home, I expected much better quality.

New Home

This builder is not professional. Quality of the work is poor. Customer service is of no use. Everything decided by owner of this company Wilson. So no pointing from buying this builder as everything is add on item including rough in for washer/dryer etc and price will go up in the end. I wouldn't recommend anyone for buying new home from this builder

New home build

We were very happy with the service recieved from Sunlight Homes. What we liked was that we were able to deal directly with the owner who in turn contacted the trades himself and they came in to do any items we needed them to look at. We would recommend them to family and friends no problem.
