Basement waterproofing and renovation

We hired Quality Restorations after interviewing several contractors. We wanted to finish the basement of our 95-yr-old house, which required lots of work - waterproofing, plumbing, wiring, framing, concrete pouring - and re-grading the backyard to prevent water from pooling around the basement steps and walls. Doug and the workers he hired were professional and hard-working. Doug kept great records and was available to re-assess our plans when appropriate, listened to and addressed our concerns, and kept everyone on the same page as the job progressed. A consistent crew of experienced builders did good quality work for us, re-building the bathroom, insulating, framing, dry walling, and fixing the concrete floors. They also worked well with the plumbers, electricians, and HVAC who came and went as needed. The cold weather arrived before our exterior concrete steps could set in some places, and the Quality Restorations crew committed to returning to fix it when its warm enough. We hope to engage their services again when we are ready to build out our back porch and replace the floors inside.

Replacement of Collapsing Retaining Wall

One of the walls bordering our carport was in a long-term slow collapse and needed to be replaced; they were probably over 30 years old. Doug offered a good and timely quote to match what we were looking for, and the team that did the work (tearing out the old wall, removing the stump of a small tree and another plans that had grown into and through the wooden slats of the wall, replacing the wall, etc.) in a very efficient and quick few hours. The work was well done and looks great.

Porch Repair

We were given some things to do for our insurance and our porch was on the list. It was noted that we needed a hand rail and that we should address the slope of the main deck.
Our neighbors were having their porch renovated by Quality renovations and since we use our porch as a second sitting room we wanted someone we could trust, and they recommended them. We contacted Doug and discussed the request by the insurance company and he told us that it was no problem and an easy job, that overall the porch looked okay. We took him at his word.
Over $5,000.00 later, our beloved porch had a cosmetic upgrade with no hand railing and the slope was not repaired. When trying to discuss this, we were not listened to, interrupted and told we needed to pay for the work done. We signed a vague agreement, and he hid behind that and not his word. We are extremely disappointed in our needs being ignored and having spent money for cosmetic changes that were not immediately needed.
The customer service and the communication are non existent.
A final note: we had to spend an afternoon of our own time, because skirting was applied all the way around the porch, leaving no access to our lawn mower and other gardening needs.

$5,500.00

I am very sorry that you have felt the need to express your opinions here. You could have just as easily called and sorted this out.

What you have said is completely misleading to the general public and is not actually based in fact.

Here is the exact scope of work that you agreed to in a signed contract that is not vague whatsoever:

Supply and install new 1’x4” T&G pine decking on the front porch
Build new stairs with 5/4ths x 6” Sienna Pressure Treated decking
Reuse and install existing handrails
Supply and install new 5/4ths pressure treated decking on the storage box -
Caulk rowel joints and repaint the contour flashings on the porch roof
Complete site clean up and disposal of waste materials
Tuckpoint a few mortar joints on the front pillar

You were advised before and during the job that if you wanted to remove the frame below the porch in order to remove the slope it would be at an added cost. That is exactly what we did for your neighbour who ,as you have stated, recommended us very highly and that cost was clearly priced out in a contract for him beforehand. In your case, you specifically made the decision to NOT replace the frame which would have made the porch perfectly level.

Had you asked for an access door under the porch beforehand we would have installed it for you.

You also asked if we could find the large Keystone Ballustrades to match your existing handrails for the handrail going down the stairs and we could not find anything to match so I advised that you go to New Canadian Lumber to look at Colonial handrails and turned traditional wood handrails which you selected. We then purchased and installed them. I gave it to you at cost ( $250 in materials and $150 to install) as a new handrail was not included in the original contract for the very reason that I was going to look for the Keystone Ballustrades at your request

You finally decided that were entitled to a new handrail without paying for it. There was no “vague agreement” that we “hid” behind

A note to the reader: We have installed hundreds of porches and decks over the years all over the GTA and we always are responsive to whatever the client wants and at very competitive rates.

It was a pleasure working with Doug on my deck project. He’s very responsive and willing to explain things to me. Patrick and crew completed the deck just in time for the labour day long weekend and even worked on Saturday just to complete the work as promised. I appreciate their commitment in delivering the project on the agreed timeline. I’m very happy with the quality of the work and outcome of my new deck, it looks great.

Complete unit gut, re-design & re-do plus A series of Bathroom and Kitchen renovations in a multi family co-op dwelling

The past 4 years we have had Quality do a series of bathroom/kitchen renovations in our over 100 year old building including our adjacent town house units. The work primarily included a complete gutting. On one of the lower basement units, Dale, Brad & crew did a complete gut & re-design and re-do of the entire unit -- which entailed removing the old wood floors, joists, old piping etc right down to the dirt ...a huge major job.

Their knowledge, suggestions and expertise is mighty impressive, their costs very fair, and they did everything possible to accommodate the residents while synchronizing the work to be done.

Workmanship -- nothing short of exemplary! The finishing detail couldn't be better.

Kudos to Quality Restorations & Renovations! You can't go wrong with this group. So fortunate to have found them. (And Doug Pearce's referral to Dee Porter of Colour Works --another fortunate find!)

exterior painting, stucco, vintage window refinishing

Quality Restorations undertook a number of projects on and around the house this summer. In each case the work was carried out at a high professional level, with beautiful results.

The centerpiece was repair, restoration and painting of a large, complex suite of vintage wood windows. This required a lot of sustained attention to detail, as well as a range of solid technical skills. It was, frankly, an unusual and difficult job, but Cameron put in a superb effort and rose to all the challenges.

The next step was a major repainting involving the veranda, interior and exterior, plus all the existing aluminum siding. Again, the work was top-notch, and no detail was too small for Cameron and Matt. New vinyl floor planks were laid down on the veranda, and base moulding expertly installed. It looks really sharp.

In addition, fresh stucco was applied to the aged original stucco on the garage. This was another a tricky job, but Walter and his crew achieved first-class results.

Throughout all this, Doug at Quality Restorations replied promptly to email messages. Estimates were clear and detailed. He made excellent suggestions along the way, which further improved the outcome. Overall, this is a very professional firm that holds to high standards.

Beautiful workmanship, love our deck and fence

Our backyard had become a no tread zone, our deck and fence needed to be redone quite badly. Quoted several companies through Homestars, and Quality clearly rose to the top, for ease and value from competitive quoting. Doug initiated a home visit and clearly laid out a detailed quote for the ask. The job started, the deck revealed decay underneath, and needed to rebuild from scratch. The quote for additional work was clear, reasonable and the entire process transparent. Perry built everything with incredible pro workmanship and attention to detail. We are thrilled with the results and would recommend to anyone. Now to enjoy the big deck, who doesnt love a big deck!

New Bedroom / Kitchen Adjustmnet

I was looking to restore a bedroom on the ground level of my house by adjusting the existing kitchen. After gathering several quotes, I decided to proceed with Quality Restorations for their track record, experience and well illustrated knowledge.

Anthony was assigned to do the job. I was very impressed with his speed, thoroughness and attention to detail. He was also very helpful in making suggestions during the course of the project for how the cabinets should be formatted to work with the adjusted kitchen. Every day I came home, I would see plenty of progress. The job was completed in a timely fashion.

Although there are companies that would have done this job a little cheaper, I don't think their quality and finish would match Quality Restorations. I would certainly recommend this company to my friends and colleagues for their vast experience, quality and overall professionalism.
