Design work was OK but be careful if they recommend trades
I'm fairly sure Kendall Wright are no longer in business. We worked with them many years ago. The Principals had worked on some designs for us that were quite lovely and they seemed like very nice people. However we did end up running into a significant issues with the tradespeople they referred. We just couldn't understand how we were paying so much for each service to get such low quality work. We questioned one trades person whose role had been to install a balcony roof but had neglected to waterproof the floor thereby causing the brand newly installed painted woodwork and lighting below to fail (as well as the floor having to be redone). He had also used cheap plywood to clad areas where other waterproof quality materials (such as crezon we were later told) should have been used causing newly clad pillars to blister just a year or so later. His excuse for cheap materials and poor workmanship was that he was required to pay Kendall Wright a portion of the budget that left him to feel as though he was under paid. Apparently paying a commission to the referring designer is common in that industry. However we would have felt differently about the money they were paid if a) it was disclosed so that we could understand more clearly whose interests were being served / or b) Kendall Wright took responsibility for the workmanship or even management of the project. The workmanship for a few of the trades was poor enough to have to be substantially re-done and in once instance replaced entirely . We spend many months living with boarded up windows amongst other issues and I was pretty sad about what we had spent financially and in wasted time. We ended up using our own contacts and the process was executed far more smoothly. They apologised for the inconvenience but not in any meaningful way.
