Furnace purchase and installation
We recently had a furnace installed by House Smart Home Improvements, Coquitlam. We were very happy with the installation. However, after it was installed we noticed we did not get a new thermostat as per our quote, so we contacted them. The installer came and installed a very basic thermostat, not as good as our existing one, so we kind of understood why he hadn't initially installed it. On our quote it stated we would get a honeywell touchscreen programmable thermostat, so I contacted them again and was told the installer would come out and put the correct one in. A few days later I was again contacted by Home Stars and told we would not get the thermostat on our quote, as it was incompatible with the furnace we bought. Their printed material entitled furnace quote had this thermostat with the furnace we bought but that was an error. I said we would be happy with any similar thermostat, but were not happy with the very cheap basic one we now have. I was told a number of times that i needed to refer to our contract rather than the quote and the contract only states programmable thermostat, with no description or model. My big problem with this is that when we were comparing quotes from different companies, we were assuming the information on the House Smart quote was correct as other companies were offering a touchscreen style thermostat as well. The furnace quotes we had from 3 companies were pretty similar in price but I think we ended up with slightly less from House Smart. Their printed material is therefore misleading so we wouldn't consider ordering windows from them as there could once again be a difference between their brochure and what you actually get in the contract. In the end they have given us $50 toward a new thermostat which we will install ourselves. I would say this was given begrudgingly overall.
