Replaced Heating & Cooling System

I had recently replaced my Furnace and A/C recently with HighLife. Edward C. who was our salesman provided us with top notch service. He was very friendly and organized. We are a picky couple but he was willing to spend time to explain all the details to us. The rebates which usually give us tantrums were all received with much thanks to Edward. The installation process was flawless, very clean! My wife and I have already referred many friends to them already. I highly recommend this company. Prices for a Carrier are a little up there but compared to other Carrier dealers along with the rebates, it was more then reasonable.

Split Air Conditioning Unit

My husband and I purchased a split air conditioning unit for our home from this company. We wanted a good and reliable one and decided on Carrier as they were advertising and being promoted by our local television news station. They were advertising their 10 year extended warranty. We searched the yellow pages for a local authorized dealer and settled on this company. We were impressed that the owner of the company, Mr. Leung, dealt with us directly. He recommended a unit that would be sufficient for the size of the area that we wanted to cool. He also confirmed to us that the compressor we were getting did indeed have a 10 year warranty as advertised by the manufacturer, and wrote the warranty details directly on the invoice. The transaction and installation went fairly smoothly and we were pleased with the air conditioner.

About 3 years later, we noticed that the unit wasn't cooling but only blowing air around. We called the company right away but after promising many times to come out to our home, no one ever did show up. Frustrated, we contacted the manufacturer, Carrier and they finally referred us to another factory authorized service company. When the technician came out, he told us that the compressor was shot and needed to be replaced. We showed him the original invoice and the warranty documents which clearly showed that there was a 10 year warranty on the compressor. When he called Carrier to verify the serial numbers, he was told that the outdoor unit that housed the compressor was mismatched to the indoor unit on our wall. Based on the serial numbers, we were told that the outdoor unit was a lower model than the one that we thought we received, and that the compressor in this lower model did not qualify for the 10 year warranty. It only had a 3 year warranty, which had just past. The cost of a new compressor would be more than half the cost of the original unit. Although we told the manufacturer the details of what we were sold based on the invoice we were given, the manufacturer was unwilling to help. When we confronted the owner with this information and the original invoice, he became belligerent and refused to help, flippantly saying that we already enjoyed 3 years of benefit!

We never thought that we needed to actually check to make sure the serial numbers on the outdoor unit matched the indoor unit! The unit we received (both indoor and outdoor portions) looked exactly like the pictures of the unit in the product brochure we were given by the owner.

We deeply regret ever dealing with Carrier and this so called "authorized dealer" that performed the classic "bait and switch" on us. We will never ever deal with Carrier again, which didn't even offer to help mediate with one of their authorized dealers. My husband and I are both disappointed and disgusted.

Humidifier Installation

Fred from High Life was courteous, prompt and responsive to the installation. When we had an issue with the humidifer, High-Life sent Fred immediately to fix the problem (humidifier was under warranty).

2 Ton Carrier A/C Install

I met these guys at a home show and called them. They were polite and very professional in all aspects. We are extremely picky and meticulous when it comes to installations and these guys did a great job. My A/C is ice cold and hasn't had a problem since install. I would recommend.

Replacement of Furnace, AC Unit, Humidifier

A friend of mine had dealt with High Life to get his furnace and AC unit replaced, and they did a decent job (not fantastic, but okay considering the discounted price compared to everybody else he quoted). In fact, this same friend also knew of a colleague that had used High Life and was satisfied with them. I took a chance and called High Life and made an appointment to have a sales representative come over. The sales person called the day of and told me he was going to be late, then after the revised appointment time, he told me that he was going to have to cancel, so we re-booked for the following Saturday. Saturday morning, I received a call and was told by the salesperson that he had to cancel again because his car was broken and the shop had not returned it. I should have called it quits with High Life at that time, but only because my friend's installation was okay, did I continue to deal with these guys. I finally got a quotation from the salesperson the following week, but he didn't seem to be very knowledgeable because I was pointing out things to the salesperson that needed to be included in the quotation. We settled on a price which was about $500 cheaper than the other companies that I quoted. I signed a contract and the work began a couple weeks later on the agreed day and time. However, in the middle of the day, one person from the two person install team left for about 4+ hours in the middle of the day. The other person who appeared more junior remained and it took the team over 12 hours to finish the work (my friend's install took about 8 hours). When I ran the furnace, the drainage tubes leaked all over my floor. It took two return trips to have this corrected. In the summer, my AC wasn't cold and there was condensation on the duct work which dripped down on top of the furnace. After 3 service calls, the technician determined that the coil had to be replaced. I can't say whether the bad coil was due to a defective product or defective installation techniques, but it seemed pretty suspicious after my other shoddy installation work. The top of the furnace was all scratched during installation of the duct work and they used excessive amounts of aluminum tape to try and stop air leaks (with little success). Just recently, I recently came to notice that the wires to the humidifier are hanging down, not connected to anything. No wonder the humifier has not been working and the house is so dry. While High Life has been accomodating and sent out service personnel up until now at no charge, I really just don't want to deal with them, and it has been an inconvenience to me to have to be home for these service calls. I personally have lost all confidence in their abilities, skill, and knowledge - the project has been one major frustration. I've attached pictures because "pictures are worth a thousand words".

Furnace and A/C

I recently replaced both the furnace & a/c and the installation was lousey. They did a messy job with the sheetmetal and when I asked if they are going to customize this they said that they would charge extra. The guys did not look very professional and said that they are only sub-contarctor. Good price but poor quality of workmanship. Will not reccommend to anybody as their service and installation sucks. Salesperson never called back on my concerns.

I purchased a new furnace

I spent money with the relative big company claimed to have their own service people instead of oursourcing. I had lots of issues from contract setting up, to installation and even bill payment. When I called the sales person and asked for a check after installation, he said he would charge me. I was very surprised. I asked him this should be under warranty because I had problems with the installation. But he insist to charge. I gave up and said O.K. Please send someone over. I spent over $4000 and I want to make sure it works. I can spend another $100. However, nobody called me after to schedule anything. Whenever I called the company, the sale person was busy online. I wanted to find a manager to talk to. It shocked me that no manager was there to talk to. Not only they dealt with customers in his fashion. When I sent my payment to a finance company. The finance company said the sales person has not completed the financing procedure with them after almost 3 months. They have to send my cheque back and ask me to send to High Life Heating directly. I am a good customer. I am going to mail the cheque. But I am wondering is there any way to protect myself as a customer when I am not happy with the service at all.
