New Sliding Door BIG Structural Mistake
we had our install completed in 2015 and the issues we had were initially so minor that I didn't bother to review them. Now we're completing a kitchen reno and removing walls and we have to pay to fix the failed structural integrity due to the shotty work that Ranjan did on the sliding door install.
Denis, our sales rep was initially great but, once we encountered minor issues he had no interest in follow up. One of the handles on the window didn't work, he did get us out a new one. The lock was broken on one of the windows on our bay window. I followed up for months and neither Ranjan nor Denis came through to fix it. Ranjan seemed to have no interest in the matter and kept deferring to Denis.
Fast forward to present, we had an engineer come in to assess since we're removing some walls. The Engineer found that Ranjan did not extend the lintel over the sliding door to properly support the weight of the house. The engineer said he should have used 3 - 2x4 for the supporting posts installed directly on the concrete wall below, that didn't happen. Now we're likely going to have to pay minimum 3,000 to fix this problem! They risked the structural integrity of the home and are ending up costing me more money as a result. I'm pretty disgusted to be honest.
UPDATE:
I have raised the satisfaction stars from 0 to 2. Here's why I raised it and why it was no more than 2 stars.
I reached out to the company in response to their message. They responded back and in a fairly timely manner had their installer come out to assess. We went back and forth on the structural requirements for the fix and ended up having to buy all the material (since the installer refused to follow the engineer's scope) and the installer refused to put in the footings to support the point load of the beam, because he said the company only paid him to install the lintel. So, they sort of fixed the problem and the labour was at the cost of the company.
I respect some effort but, I would still caution against having Clera replace any of your windows with doors. The installer does not understand the structural requirements and the risk is large. In fact, when we had our inspection done the inspector had us add additional structural nails (installer just threw a couple in) and made the comment that we really want to make sure that the lintel is well in place and can't come out because it is very dangerous. My husband ended up installing the footings too.
All-in-all, the company at least made some effort but, they did not do it right the first time, this caused a large delay in our project, cost us more money in material, and the labour was not completed to the scope of work required for our family's safety, so I still would not recommend the company.
