Just replaced kitchen cabinets installed by Durham Cabinets in 2007 as part of a large whole home renovation. The finish on the cabinet doors and drawers began to crack and peel within a year. When I asked them to rectify the defective finish in the second year, the man was uncooperative, surly and seemed offended that I would criticize his shoddy finish. I asked a few times why the finish would fail so easily but they claimed they did not know. He reluctantly agreed to take 5 of the "worst" doors/ drawers for repair, leaving the others he deemed "not that bad". After about 2 months and several calls to the company the doors were returned but were a slightly different shade than the rest of the cabinets. Meanwhile the other doors/ drawers continued to crack and peel and the finish could eventually be removed with my fingernail in some areas. After 9 years of looking at this embarrassing kitchen, I found a reputable cabinet maker to replace them (AFTER ONLY NINE YEARS!!!). Although DPC couldn't tell me why their finish peeled, the replacement contractor explained that the expensive wood doors were not stained and then lacquered, but rather had the stain added to the lacquer and applied together to save time but greatly reduce durability. Also, when removing the old DPC cabinets, the contractor showed me many deficiencies, cut corners and sloppy workmanship that I paid top dollar for. The quality of construction and finish on the new cabinets and the sturdy installation is vastly better than the old ones. DPC sold me a premium custom maple kitchen and 9 years later it is destined for the dump. I could use some cabinets in my garage, but I will have the new guy build me some the right way rather than use the old DPC ones as I am afraid they will make my garage look shoddy and cheap.The new cabinets and doors are so superior in finish, construction and installation that I can't believe I was such a sucker the first time around. I am certain these new cabinets will last several times longer than the junk I bought in 2007. There are better cabinet makers than this in the area. Do your research and choose wisely. They should consider dropping the word "Precision" from their business name as it doesn't really apply.
