2 leaky faucets

Keep in mind that when you call this company, you might be in for some major bills. The smallest repair job on a faucet is $159, (less the $60 fee for the estimate, which is waived if you sign with them). I gather that would be for something as small as replacing a washer. We found that they seemed to want to turn everything into a large job with a large price tag. After sending them packing, despite having to pay $80 ($60 plus tax) for their inflated estimate, we got their $800 job done for $450. Be careful about buying parts from them, such as faucets. One new faucet from them, plus a few minor pipes and parts, would have cost about $420 plus tax, installed. We bought a good Moen faucet ourselves for less than $100. The rest of their price was very expensive labour. Also, you won't have much selection if you buy through them. My suggestion is to find someone who will let you buy your own parts and just pay for the labour. Maybe other major plumbing companies have similar shocking charges, but I was horrified at what they were giving me as an estimate and did much better without them.

Approximate cost of services:
$69.00

Company Response

**Thanks David** This review gives us the opportunity to shed some light on the particulars you have mentioned. At DrainWorks our employees are salaried and do not work on commission; there is no incentive to try and turn minor repairs into large jobs, but rather the circumstances of the issues at hand dictate the repairs required. In your situation David it is best to first address what our $800 estimate was for. It was not as you have written for 2 leaky faucets. The estimate for the 2 leaky faucets alone would have been $514 + gst, which based on what you have written (buying your own $100 faucet plus $450 of labour) is less than you paid someone else; not including the fact that you chose a top of the line faucet from us, rather than choosing a cheaper faucet which was also an option. The $800 estimate you speak of was not only to replace one faucet with a high end model of your choice including the supply and install of the supply lines, shut off valves and complete waste assembly, but also to repair a 2nd faucet and thirdly to repair your basement toilet which was running on. In addition you mention “having to pay the $80 ($60 plus tax) estimate fee” when in reality the estimate fee is $69 + GST and you had already agreed to this fee when scheduling the appointment to have a plumber sent over to make any assessments. If you did not agree with the assessment fee, which we were very clear and upfront about over the phone with you; then why book the appointment? You also suggest “to find someone who will let you buy your own parts and just pay for the labour”; and we do. This is most definitely an option at DrainWorks. Most of our customers prefer the full service of having us supply and install any fixture, which is why we do have a large selection of faucets to choose from; in fact we can get you any faucet you want, which is why your claim of “not much selection” is puzzling. But we certainly do install customer supplied fixtures. You also mention that our smallest repair on a faucet is $159, which simply isn’t true. The whole review when broken down is rather made up, a complete fabrication and distortion of the facts. We have the same written invoice you have which visibly documents these specifics.
