We did not take advantage of this customer. We have a set Price Book that all of our technicians follow. We DO NOT make up our prices on the spot; we:
- Refer to the prices in our Price Book
- Show the cusotmers the price in our Price Book
- Write up an invoice STATING the PRICE and WORK INVOLVED
- Have the customer sign off on the work they are agreeing to
We stand by our prices, and would like to let everyone reading this know that there is too sides to every story, and we are an HONEST and RELIABLE company that strives to provide competitive prices and quality service to our customers.
We contacted this customer and attempted to make peace with him. He would not accept our offer to come back out to correct the situation. We tried our best to resolve this issue.
TECHNICIAN'S STATEMENT:
On November 24, 2009, I (Thomas) arrived at the customer’s home. The customer called us regarding a leak he had in his ceiling on the main floor of the home. I cut open the dry wall in the ceiling to find where the source of the leak. I found a cast iron drain stack with a crack in it about a foot long and 2” wide.
I mentioned to the customer of the crack in the pipe and advised the customer that he should change the cast iron pipe before more problems occur. He instantly agreed. I measured the length of the section of the cast iron pipe I would need to remove, and it was 30 feet. I gave him a quote of $4,856 to remove the cast iron pipe and replace it with 3” ABS DWV pipe.
The next day when I showed up at the site (with another plumber Wayne) we cut out the wall and the ceiling so we could expose the drain pipe and complete the work. When we pulled down the ceiling we exposed the rest of the drains for the bathroom that was above us. These pipes were made of lead and cast iron; we offered to remove the drain pipes and replace them with new ones at the ADDITIONAL PRICE of $2,500, bringing the total to $7,481. I clearly stated that the extra $2,500 was IN ADDITION to the job that was originally quoted for $4,586.
I offered the customer a 10% discount, saving him $748.00
Sincerely,
Thomas
DRAIN RESCUE OFFICE STATEMENT:
The customer was quoted additional work, and agreed to proceed forward with it. It was clearly stated to the customer that the extra work needed to be done, and the customer agreed to this additional work.
The plumber (Thomas) at this customer’s site gave the incorrect discount. Upon realizing this we extended the customer an addition discount of 5%, for a total discount of 15%. We priced this job fairly, and we executed the work we promised the customer.
Truthfully,
Walter Hontar
