I had a blockage in the pipe from my kitchen sink. The guy came to give me a quote and went to the main drain access in the basement. He loosened the cap and when a few drops of water came out he immediately told me I needed a power flush. He then quoted me $1,600 for the power flush. I asked if he could just auger out the kitchen drain and he said he could for another $330 but it wouldn't do any good.
I phoned another company and was quoted $680 for the power flush and auguring. Almost $1,000 less!! It turns out I didn't even require the power flush as there was no blockage in the main drain.
Beware, beware, beware!

Our Licensed plumber visited your home free of charge and gave you a professional opinion on a drain issue that you have for a while with your kitchen stuck and trying to fix on your own with handy equipment for an X amount of time. When our plumbing specialist found that your stuck full of water he tried to protect your belonging against flood and damages that it could cause. He was following the policy and establish the pricing based on a company price book after diagnosing the drain problem at your home. We are not providing any pricing without seeing the problem and we call that professionalism and respectful treating of the customer. The same way we are not able to fix a problem over the phone. We are giving a price before to do any job and no matter how long it is gonna take us to fix the problem the price would not change. It is good that you fixed your problem on your own and push the blockage from the stuck to the main drain but it does not mean you treated your drain in a professional way!
