The rental hot water tank broke on a Saturday morning. I called Direct Energy and told them that the tank was leaking all over the place and will need replacement. Inspite of that, they sent a technician who came to tell me that the replacement tank will have to be done by someone else and will be done the next day. We went through a leaking tank situation for 48 hours and I had no choice but to wait and then I was told that the rental goes up by another $10 per month and that I have to pay $250 plus tax for the installation as well! Horrible.

Hi Naaz. As much as we trust your expertise when it comes to water heaters, we must send a technician out right away to diagnose the problem to determine if it can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced. Without seeing your account info, I can only assume the extra charge was for upgrades in venting and piping to meet new building codes. Also assuming that your tank was not leaking for 48 hours and that the first technician shut off the water supply to the tank to stop the flow of water? We would be happy to look into this further if you send us a message with you address and phone number. Thanks.
