Deck & Dock

We bought 2 chairs and a table on the May long weekend. We paid in full even though they only had 1 chair in stock. The sales manager Santos assured us they would have the other chair in, in 2 weeks, yet wrote on our bill that it would be in June 13. The chain eventually arrived 6 weeks later in July. Picked it up, took it home only to find that it was defective. Went all the way back to the store to return it. They said we would have to wait again for another one to come from the manufacturer. They offered us a loaner when we pointed out we still hadn't been able to use the table we bought 6 weeks earlier because we only had 1 chair. We FINALLY picked up the chair onAugust 11, 3 months after we had paid in full. The store had been advertising a sale on everything in the store so we asked if we could have the sale price since we hadn't had the chair all summer and if we had purchased it now, we would get the sale price.
The sales person turned to me and said in a very nasty way, "well you've been depreciating our chair all summer." I couldn't believe it!! Finally she said the manager would have to call me and assured they would call me by Monday. I'm still waiting. Very poor customer service though out our dealings with this store. They never called us to let us know what was happening, we had to call them to follow up, and many times our calls weren't returned. The owner David basically told us that we should have known that orders take 6 weeks, even though Santos had repeatedly said 2 weeks.

I ordered an umbrella, stand, and lights from Deck and Dock and were given a date when the products would be available. A week after that date, I called to be told that the umbrella would be delayed - but that they could offer me a 'loaner' umbrella until mine arrived. Very reasonable compromise, I thought. When the loaner arrived, which was the same dimension of the one I had ordered, I realized that it would be too small for our deck. This was a custom ordered umbrella so I were pretty sure they wouldn't exchange it when it did eventually arrive. But I asked anyway, just in case. As it turned out, Deck and Dock were happy to sell our smaller umbrella in the store and order a larger one for us. This type of flexibility and customer service is rare these days and I wanted to commend Deck and Dock for being so accommodating and professional.

Our backyard furniture set was nearly complete, with a bench, lounge chair, ottoman, and side table, as well as large dining table, all in teak. However we had held off on the teak dining chairs because our U.S.-based supplier was asking too much for them. We found a good selection at Deck & Dock in Toronto. The store seemed a bit ragged and disjointed given the price of much of the inventory, but when we managed to get some service, the help was very personal indeed. The owners helped us track down a set of very solid chairs that we are still pleased with after much wear - and were willing to give us the pros and cons on different types. I don't recall the exact price, but it was solid value and cheaper than we had expected. The delivery people arrived at our west end home before we did!

Searched the city for patio furniture at a decent price that was sturdy and nice. Found a wide selection at Deck & Dock and a salesperson (Lindsay) who was friendly, knowledgable and very helpful. We had fallen in love with a set at another store but the price tag would have required us to take out a second mortgage - at Deck & Dock we bought the same set at a fraction of the price. Only problem...they did not realize they did not have a set of 6 chairs in stock so we now are waiting for two more to arrive!
