Tree Removal

I have mixed feelings about this CB Tree Service.

Overall: if you need emergency service, these guys will be likely be the first on site. But just expect that you will have to monitor they all the time.

Project: massive tree (12 meters high, around 80 years old) felt down. Tree felt on Monday evening, they started job on Wednesday afternoon, finished on Friday evening.

The good: they did an emergency service on a pretty complex project.

The bad: all sorts of things
1) They did not explain that they would leave the wood of the trunk behind or that they would be big pieces. I did ask about the removal of it, but that was extra. What I was left with was around 3-4 tones of logs; some of these were 100-120 kg so even moving them was not an option. I had to rent the chainsaw next day to just cut all of the big pieces. Plus the removal of that was also quite expensive.
2) They broke bunch of patio stones when they thrown the wood on them. Eventually they realized that and moved the patio stones away. When I asked them if they will put it back, there was a confrontation. Eventually they did placed them back but very sloppy.
3) The guy was constantly asking for money order. I did not like that. His argument was that he had to pay the workers at the end of the week and need the money now. Well, there is something wrong with this company if they need money orders and have no cash in the bank.
4) On the second day they just left the job site in the middle of the day. They did secure the tree so it won't fall or anything. Why: according to them, it was too hot. I am sure they went on another job site but that was not really satisfying when I came back on Thursday evening and so not a big progress.

Approximate cost of services:
$4,000.00

Company Response

Allexee ,quite simply, you are not telling the truth. Your review is so inaccurate, I'd like to set the record straight and respond to your criticisms about our service.
1) Before we accepted the job, all of the details about the removal were laid out and explained to you before work began, because it wasn't your property and you were looking after the project for the homeowner who was out of the country. You were quite aware that the pieces of wood would be cut to firewood lengths and left on site as you requested. We offered to dispose of the wood for you for a small fee, but you declined, stating that you had arranged a junk removal service to remove the wood. The wood was left behind as per your instructions.
2 )We did not break a single patio stone, that is an outright lie.The truth is that we explained to you before work began, that the patio stones could not withstand the impact of the falling pieces of wood as the tree was being cut, and we asked you to move the stones before we began work. You asked us to do it for you and we did on our own time and for no additional charges. The slabs were old and rotten, many were cracked and broken from wear and the expanding root system of the tree. We also explained to you that we would be unable to place the broken stones back in their original position and that we had not included this extra work in the original estimate. I'm sorry if you felt that was a confrontation, it was merely a fact. In any case when the removal was finished I asked the crew to replace the stones anyway, on our own time and at no cost to you, simply because we didn't want to leave you with a big mess. I'm sorry if you found this free service sloppy. I should have left the moving and replacing of 40 to 50 seventy pound patio slabs for you to do, please forgive me.
3) We never asked you for a money order at all, that is totally untrue. We did however explain that we expected payment on completion of work. You agreed to pay us a certified cheque when we finished and you did not keep your agreement. We had to phone you several times with many missed appointments before we were finally paid. You then asked us to remove a second tree which required a permit, and even under the threat of a bad review, we decided not to do any more work for you. We prefer to work for people who appreciate our dedication to our craft and our quest for service excellence. We don't mind doing something for nothing on occasion when it is appreciated, in fact it's a pleasure.
What you probably aren't aware of is that we did such an amazing job removing your tree from such a dangerous situation, we were featured in the national post newspaper that day
(See:national post newspaper August 30, 2013 article titled " how cutting down trees can be one of the most dangerous jobs" Tthe photographer attended your property that day to take the pictures. It"s too bad you weren't there.
4) To avoid the risk of accident or injury,we wrapped up early that day because the humidex was 42 degrees.,and the men were becoming fatigued. It is dangerous to perform this work when you are less than one hundred percent and we decided to err on the side of caution to be safe and no, we didn't go off and do another job elsewhere, we were totally exhausted.
It's clear to me that you didn't appreciate the fine service you were given and unfortunate that you feel you have to lie to discredit our company.
I'm sorry you have mixed feelings about us but my feelings are absolutely clear. Shame on you.
