Automatic Switching installed our alarm system 3 years ago as well as in-wall wiring for all data/cable connection for my whole house. At time of installation, lots of problems that I won't even get into.
Fast forward to now, one of the door sensor fell off the door frame due to poor placement by the installer (sensor was screwed too close to a permanent frame above the door, resulting in constant contact). The sensor could be taped back onto the door but I thought I would give Automatic Switching a call for a new part.
I got a quote of $90 (ninety dollars) for the contact (not the part with the wire). I thought I heard it wrong. My husband called as well just to verify that I was not inquiring a wrong part. Nope. The quote for $90 for the parts ONLY.
And guess what? I called the manufacturer whose name was embedded on the sensor. The quote I got: $3.99. This company attempts a markup of 2150%. Sadly, the manufacturer rep told me individual supplier often overcharged because they can. They figure that if your sensor is out, your alarm cannot be enabled. Thus, homeowner would pay whatever you can.
I tried to be positive and give Automatic Switching the benefit of doubts. Maybe the quote involved labour (which they told me NOPE). Even so, would it cost $86 to just stick a magnetic part back onto the door? It must be very expensive glue/nail/fastening system they are using.
