Our dryer had decided after 13 years to cease working. My husband called a repair guy on Sunday because we would be moving our daughter on Monday. Gentleman came to the door and hesitated coming in because we have 2 dogs. (It should have given my pause right then and there) I put the dogs outside and he proceeded to look at our dryer. After maybe 15-20 minutes he said that the power switch (turn dial) mechanism needed to be replaced. I gave him 60 dollars for the visit and a deposit for the part. (I overpaid him by 5 dollars because I had no small bills) He stated that the outstanding balance would then be $75.00. I told him that we would be moving our daughter on Monday and that if he had the part he could call my husbands cell # because we would only be 5 minutes away and I could come home and let him in to repair. No call Monday ....by Tuesday my husband called him ( he did have the part Monday) and requested he come and finish the job. He agreed to be at the home before 1:00p.m.---I had an appointment that I could not miss----again no call and at 1:00 I called him. He stated he was running late.....no kidding sherlock...I asked him why he did not call me to let me know...he could not come up with a good reason. At this point I'm getting annoyed. After my appointment I went to Reliable Parts and picked up the power switch after getting the model # from Frigidaire directly. I installed it myself and noticed that the dryer was still not working. After talking to my husband...he felt we should give this gentleman another chance and he called him and asked him to come on Thursday at 10:00a.m. (An agreed upon time)I left both the new and old mechanism out of the dryer in plain sight. The gentleman showed up at 9:15 unannounced...I called my husband to come home from work and be here because I felt that me and the dogs leaving the house would be a good idea. I got back just as the gentleman was leaving our driveway...,my husband informed me that the gentleman advised that it was not the starting mechanism that needed replacement but the safety switch that locks the dryer if it gets too hot. He was paid the extra $75 by cheque. Okay time to do laundry...I go downstairs and put laundry in the dryer ....turn the dial to start the cycle and the switch comes off in my hand and rest of the mechanism was loose and fell into the inside of the dryer case. To say the least I was not impressed. I had to take it apart again (top and front) to fish out the mechanism...realized after looking at it that he put the old one back on ...so I replaced it with the new one and everything is working correctly. This company is not registered with the government..so I'm just putting out this warning to others that might need help on the weekend with an appliance...do not call this gentleman because you may find yourself repairing your own appliance after paying out hard earned money.(By the way....we stopped payment on the cheque) We're waiting to hear from him.
