I had a little leak which I fixed several times but it just came back. Then big rain and one more leak. Time to call but who to call. I was very worried about getting shafted. When we purchased the house, it was supposed to have a 20 year warrenty on the roof that was supposed to be 12 years old. That company didn't exist anymore. I could see that there was a wide range of companies from do-it-yourself guy to larger companies like Penfolds. I was more concerned about buy a long term product from a reliable company that stood behind their work and would be around in a decade or two. Searching on the net, I found several. I listen to ads on the radio, talked to people and read the Better Business reviews. I finally sent an email to Penfolds and got an automatic reply. The next day a gentleman Jonathan called me to discuss the problem and said he would come out and take a look at it. He looked everything over inside and out and we sat down and discussed it. He said they could fix it but it didn't make sense with the age and condition of the roof. He spent a long time explaining to me what the problems were and I asked him for a quote. I got that several days later and he invited me to their show room to look over the various shingles and other options. I ended up spending more than I planned to but I also got a longer lasting roof with guarantees. They had a really good finance option for the first year (.9%) which helped ease the dollars going out. We also addressed the air flow problem with a much nicer approach than just more stuff on the roof. We set the date for them to come and do the roof. They were very flexible about it. I was worried it was going to be messy and disruptive. The workers were there early, worked hard all day long till dark. It took two days. They cleaned everything up before they left the first night and also the next day. I was truly amazed at how good they were, polite and asking to go into the backyard. I was very impressed. Jonathan dropped by several times to see how things were going and to see what I thought of it. With all the heavy rain and wind, I have not had any problems at all since then. He dropped by a few months later to see how things were going. Great followup. He turned what could have been a terrible experience into a rewarding experience for us. I have a neighbour who has done his roof 3 times with friends, small company, etc and he still has a tarp on one part of his roof. No thanks. You get what you pay for folks.
