John did excellent work building a hallway closet for us. The closet looks like it's always been there and blends seamlessly with rest of the room. He matched the paint and trim to the existing paint and trim which we really appreciated. John also did some minor work in our garage for about $300.
The lack of a 5 star review is for a few reasons. 1. The initial quote was quite far off (~$500) from the final bill and this was due to the fact that he didn't accurately account for the type of trim we had. He quoted us for pre-fab trim and ours was milled trim. We feel this is something he could have known when he quoted us at the beginning but perhaps not? Also, he had to source a matching door from somewhere in Toronto which added to the cost. Again, this could have been something account for from the beginning. The actual cost is less of a concern it's more that it wasn't very accurate to the quote and we were surprised with the final price. We know this can happen of course but it seems like these things could have been more accurately accounted for at the beginning. 2. We had to ask him to come back to finish the project. He didn't install a rail and shelf in the closet which we had discussed prior the commencement of the project. 3. There was a lot of debris left on our property that we feel should have been disposed of by John. There were drywall and trim off cuts and scrap wood left in the garage. Again, we don't mind him leaving behind the extra trim which we paid for but the dust and debris should have been removed or at least put in a garbage/recycling bin. We had to load our car with the garbage and find a dumpster to dispose of what was left.
These are very small complaints and overall we are very happy with the work. John is a very nice person and we felt comfortable having him in our home.
Thank you John!
