Robert did a renovation for us on our home. He is a smooth talker, but he is not to be trusted. We let him go before the renovation was finished because he was way over budget and time and we were noticing that the quality was not very good. After we let him go, we discovered just how many mistakes he had made. I am not going to to into all the details of the smaller mistakes, but it costs us close to 10 000 to fix them. The biggest and most dangerous mistake that he made was in our fireplace renovation.
We didn't even realize that there was a problem right away but because there was a bad draft, we thought we would get someone in to see about fixing the draft. It was then that we found out how dangerous it was.
When he renovated our fireplace, he pulled the insert out of the cavity and then reframed it on to wood. All of which made our fireplace not only illegal, but incredibly dangerous. The fireplace is only rated for putting into an existing wood burning fireplace. Since he pulled it out and set it on wood, he made it a fire hazard. We have had 4 different professional contractors and fireplace renovators tell us that if we turned on our fireplace we would have burned our house down. You can imagine how upset we were about finding this out. So our only option was to replace the insert with a zero clearance fireplace and adjust the opening to fix it. Which was quite expensive as we had already covered it with stone and didn't want to rip it all down. It cost us $7000 to fix that problem.
Do not hire or trust Robert to renovate your fireplace, something that he is supposedly an expert in and has done many fireplace renovations.
