To help prevent basement flooding, we wanted to add an external backwater valve. The work required Public Plumbing to dig a 9 ft deep pit in our front yard to reach the existing sanitary pipe, install a new plastic pipe and valve, test the pipe/valve, coordinate with the city inspector to come on-site, then backfill the pit. Public Plumbing was excellent to deal with -- they showed up on time and completed the work as promised and it easily passed inspection! [Note: I understand they are well known by the city inspectors for their good work] They were reliable, courteous and hard working. A special thanks to Mike who coordinated the job -- he is knowledgeable and was easy to deal with -- he explained everything that needed to be done and ensured the job was done right. Will definitely spread the good word!

In June of this year, we embarked on a large scale renovation of our Leaside home. The design decisions for such a reno are numerous – doors, windows, furniture selection and placement, fireplaces, lighting, door trim & crown mouldings, kitchen, tile & wood flooring, bathroom fixtures, vanities & mirrors, wall colours, etc. – the list is long and the options are overwhelming. To add to the “stress”, often the timeline to make a design decision is short as to not delay construction progress. Acting as a design consultant, Nanette helps to narrow down the multitude of choices to fit your personal style and the type of home you are building. She uses her many years of experience to help you steer clear of design pitfalls (e.g. too trendy!) and hooks you up with manufacturers that offer good product, value, and service. Nanette has provided excellent customer service throughout the process – she has flexible hours to meet face-to-face or on-site and she responds to phone calls and emails promptly. Her personal work style is very approachable & never condescending – she will provide you with good advice and a professional opinion, but ultimately the decision is the homeowners' and she accepts this… Be aware that the whole design process is not as portrayed on the one-hour TV design shows – it takes time and effort to put together all the pieces that will result in a well designed, cohesive style that you will be happy with many years after it’s done, but with Nanette’s help, you can feel confident that you will be successful !

Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Don't under-estimate the effort on such a large project so to give yourself sufficient time to see what's out there and what you like best; Break down the project into many, smaller "chunks" of work so you can stay focused and not feel over-whelmed.

Hi Janice! Thank you very much for writing your review. It is so much fun to work with you and I feel like your house is a little bit mine too... Thanks for making the comment about the one-hour TV design shows. Good work takes time and cannot be rushed. I look forward to spending more time with you to select the finishing touches.
Hang in there! The end is in sight!
