Re-Upholstering couch, three chairs
On of about Aug 19th, Morris came to our house to give us an estimate on re-upholstering our couch, and three chairs. When the appointment was made I told them that I had recently made slip covers for the furniture and asked if this material could be used. I was told that it could.(If I had been given any indication that there would have been a problem with this material I never would have let them take my furniture out of my house). When Morris arrived the slip covers were on the furniture and he took them off and sat on the furniture to test it out for any broken springs etc. I asked him at that time if they would be able to use the material to do the re-upholstering and was assured that they could. I gave him any left over material that I had from doing the slip covers and was assured there was enough material. We were apparently given all kinds of discounts for signing at that time as long as we signed that evening. This should have been our first alarm. Morris had people come and pick-up our furniture within and hour of us agreeing to the deal. (This should have been the second alarm) A month after our furniture had been taken, we received a phone call saying that if they were going to use the material it was going to cost a significant amount over and above the original $7000.00 agreement. After SEVERAL phone conversations and arguments we agreed to choose material from them. Our furniture was dismantaled by this time so we did not have the option of taking the furniture elsewhere. After much negotiations Morris came to our house with their samples and we chose material for our furniture. We were assured that the order would be put in the next morning first thing. Four days later we receive a phone call to tell us that the material for two of the chairs had to be ordered and that the material that was received from the manufacturer for the couch had a flaw in the material and could not be used so it would also have to be ordered. We were told that it would be at the manufacturers within two weeks. That was 4 weeks ago.I was assured that once received by TMC it would be put on high priority. The one chair and footstool has been delivered how ever has not been done as agreed to. We phoned Morris last Thursday and was told that he didn't know anything and that we had to contact customer service. After at least three phone calls an messages being left with no return phone call we finally talked to a live person today and were told that the material is still on back order from the manufacturer and they do not know when it will come. We are now into 4 months of our furniture being with this company. This has been a nightmare and I would strongly suggest that people DO NOT use this company. If I had gone onto this website or the BBB earlier they never would have gotten my furniture to re-upholster. I feel that we are being HIGHLY over charged and have been mislead from the very start. Further to this information presented, I found the company quite troubling, as in not returning phone calls, not providing a phone number for a manager so I could discuss the problems, or a manager getting back to us. Except for the one person in customer service. who was very helpful (Lolita), there was no customer service. When we received our furniture, the quality was good, but the first chair returned, was not finished according to the contract. I made 2 big mistakes with this company. I signed an over priced contract, with out getting other estimates, and letting the company pickup the furniture before all the material, problems sorted out first. I highly recommend that you do not deal with this company with out your eyes wide open and don't believe everything they tell you. GET other estimates. BUY LOCAL. 4 month turn around time is way too long. This is my last comment to this situation. Never again, TMC

Gay,
I found the information contained in your review quite troubling. After researching this issue and interviewing those involved I found some discrepancies and crucial facts missing that I feel necessary to share. Your review is titled Extremely Dishonest, which I find EXTREMELY UNFAIR. At no point was anyone affiliated with TMC dishonest. Please, allow me to explain. Yes, Morris indicated the material you had previously cut and sewn to be used as a slipcover to be suitable for the upholstery of your furniture, but, he was mistaken. It was an honest mistake – very seldom do we see people who desire to use slipcovers for reupholstery. Morris is very well versed in upholstery but he is not an upholsterer. Once the upholsterer inspected your slipcover material he declared it unusable. As explained to me, upholstery involves fastening the material to the frame which requires extra material. A slip cover is designed to fit like a glove with no excess material. This problem was relayed to you, as indicated, and an appointment for Morris to return to your home in Kitchener was set to select another fabric or combination thereof. Morris came on a Sunday, and three fabrics were selected to upholster your sofa, three large chairs and ottoman. When Morris presented you with the original price it did not include the cost for material as we intended to use the slipcovers. Naturally, this affects the price. The fabric you selected retails for $1200 but was offered for $300, which you accepted. Unfortunately, a second unforeseen problem arose – backordered fabric. Normally we do not do fabric selections on a Sunday because we prefer to check stock before proceeding and this can not be done on a Sunday. Of course, with this run of poor luck, upon ordering the fabric we learned two of the three selections were on backorder. One was only a week or two, the other, however, was several weeks. You and Mr. Nadeau refused to wait several more weeks which is understandable, so, we couriered about 5 swatches of fabric that closely resembled the severely backordered selection. To your credit, you phoned the very next day with a selection. From there we produced the two items that were unaffected by fabric and delivered those to you October 19, 2010. Your HomeStars comment was posted on the 27th of October despite 70% of your order still outstanding. (How can one properly asses a company before receiving the very work they were hired to produce?) From there, TMC would upholster the remaining items as the fabric became available. As of November 19, you have received all of your items back and we trust you are satisfied. TMC prides itself on its quality and at no point in your comments did you make mention of quality. Yes, two unfortunate events occurred which prevented the order from being completed earlier but at no point was quality sacrificed and TMC worked with you throughout the entire process.
