I needed to replace my existing flat roof as it was leaking (over 20 years old). I looked into the TOUGHROOF flat roof system which I have heard about through a neighbour. It is a multi-layered asphalt roof with a type of polyester reinforecement material that is stronger than traditional paper. The best thing about the roof is that it is seamless! They apply a white coating on the roof when it is complete to refelct the sun's rays away from the asphalt. From what I understand, as long as the asphalt is coated, and Mother Nature can't get to it, it will last forever. The only thing that ever needs replacing on this type of flat roof system is the white coating (around 15 years) and at a fraction of the cost. It is a very green product as you never need to remove the roof underneath, saving our landfills. All Weather Roofing came in with a large crew and were professional and qucik.
